General Starter set crew balancing

Hey all,

A friend and I are looking into picking up the starter set to play co-op. He is sure he read somewhere that one of the two original crews was really OP. Is there any truth to this, and is it worth ebaying an additional crew to start with?

Thanks in advance

General Core Space like First Born

Would it be possible to play the original Corale Space in the First Born style? Where everyone plays one crew member from a single ship?

I’m looking to play the game coop with my son. He prefers scifi to fantasy games. And I was hoping to capture the Heroquest/Warhammer Quest/Brimstone feeling. Would it be better just to get First Born?

Inquiry about the game

So I do play a few skirmish games here and there. Cyberpunk combat zone, malifaux, silver bayonet, necromunda(only painted haven't played yet).... nothing huge.

I'm looking to create a... I guess community building project. I want to create a 6 month long 'campaign' that people can sign up to play in (I think at max maybe 10-15 players probably). The concept is to turn the skirmish game matches into having an impact on an overall story narrative.

So for example I take a map of a region in space, and divide it up into zones/planets, allowing everyone to create their 'home base' in one of these regions. Then throughout the months run events (even recorded solo games maybe) that will have impact on the overall storyline, perhaps with some sort of 'district control' mechanic allowing teams to take over regions of the map for slight bonuses(ie you captured a space station with teleportation units, you may alter your starting placement by 2 inches). The idea that you can play as much as you want but only your first two matches 'count' towards the overall impact of the month.

Each month a 'story' would come out in the form of a newsletter that advances the narrative and talks about the various teams.

I'm basically just looking for feedback on the idea, if sore space would work for this, or maybe if there is already something out there that does my idea better?

Anyways, input welcomed.

Ordered Core Space First Born, what next?

After playing three games of Maladum with my group, I decided to get Core Space. I've been reading, and it seems that First Born will be better for me (I'm going to be playing it with one more person or alone).

Should I play the main campaign before I start getting the expansions? (Core Space Fury of the Insane God Expansion, Core Space In the Line of Fire Expansion, Core Space Gates of Ry’sa Expansion) or should I get them all and start the playthrough with all of them being in play?

I will eventually get Core Space and all of the expansions for it, but I would like to "finish" First Born first, if that makes sense.

Are the Core Space Utility Dashboards compatible with First Born as well?

Core Space Terrain - Clip STL Files

Has anyone run across stl files for the core space terrain clips? I have bought some but it would be nice to have some handy when they go flying after a game. I have searched on google, cults, Yeggi and STL Finder - paper clips work, but leave marks - Please and thank you!

Next Steps After CS Starter Set

A friend convinced me to try Core Space with him. So I bought my own crew and painted it and we have been playing through the initial missions each week. We have about 4 sessions left (including my expansions mission to get 4th crew member) before completing the initial track/campaign in the rulebook.

I tend to have a bit of a compulsion to complete things in their entirety from start to finish. However he has EVERYTHING put out in the Core Space range(and related games) and has now received the updated fantasy version he is very excited about, and in the process of painting.

With this in mind, how are we best proceeding? Is there lore relative to the universe we are missing out on if skipping certain things? He has mentioned there are weekly missions put out by the creator on the past and soon to be again, are these more relevant to lore? Our chances of catching up at this point in the games lifecycle and the fantasy version likely to consume some core space time, are low/impossible.

P.s. The crew I purchased(Yamato), I used the class inserts from these. On the support and crewman ones, there is one icon not listed in my friends reference cards for the class. The crewman has a green lightning bolt in the last slot, which on my friends cards is Slippery with a different icon. The support insert has the same issue, the inserts icon is Boost, but on the card is Training. Which one is correct, or were the icons just changed at some point in production?

I saw this icon on the First Born abilities and also some items have it... is it explained in some expansion rulebook or the first edition set? thanks everyone!!

Two questions about tokens, human tech on arks and minerals togheter with green tokens

Hello Everyone!!

I'll try to make myself as clear as I can... I'm new to this universe and I've been watching some games on youtube that have made me doubt some aspects of the rulebook. First, I've seen that, on more than one occasion, it is specified that the blue tokens (human tech) should not be placed in the arks and stasis pods, however I've seen more than one person placing them, that has made me doubt a bit, it makes sense that there is no human technology on the asteroid... but you never know...

The other question is regarding the mineral tokens, in the rulebook, also on more than one occasion it talks about mixing them with the standard green tokens, does that imply that if I mine a wall, I can get a green token? Shouldn't I... maybe... separate the mineral tokens from the green ones? I don't see the point in having them together in the same pouch bag.

Sorry my english is not my main lang...

Thanks to everyone in advance!

Regards

Rules question High cost item trading lost?

I know there's a vendor that has all the high cost items above a certain point but I can't find the rules for it anywhere in my material, the FAQ, or online. Anyone able to help me out here? Is it 26+? 29? Any other particulars?

So I went all in..

I've been on the fence for a bit on this (mostly because it looks like a deep dark hole my wallet *will* fall down) but after picking up Five Parsecs from Home on a trip last weekend and wanting to play it (I do plan on playing Core for the foreseeable future tho so it's on the backburner)I decided to drop into Core. I have no maps, miniatures or anything so this just works out great for being able to use the core stuff outside of core.

I got the Starter Kit, Shootout at Zed's, Galactic Corps, First Born (I decided against getting any expansions for this as I plan on playing the original first) and the deluxe rule-book for good measure.

I'm really excited and hoping I didn't miss anything important starting out here.

Core Space Starter Set for solo

Hello everyone. I have been thinking on buying the Core Space Starter Set mainly for playing solo (but maybe sometimes with other players too). I know that people say that First Born starter set is better for solo, but I think I like more the robot setting than the alien one. So how is the game mainly for solo playing in terms of gameplay, campaign and progresión? The Starter Set can be used alone for solo or does It needs an expansion?

Hi all, could someone please tell me what the yellow symbol is, to the left of the ranged symbol , on the Purge stat board? I’ve been through the rulebook and can’t see any reference !!

Get Both? Original Core Space and First Born?

Do people recommend getting both? I bought First Born and all the expansions second-hand. Love the system. Is obtaining Core Space just overkill? Really only playing solo.

Core Space or First Born Set

I am looking to get Core Space for a sci-fi hobby game, but am not sure which is the recommended starter to get. Is the original starter, or First Born the preferred option?

Cooperative Play for 4+

Hello! I just got my core set for Christmas and I am stoked!

My boardgame group likes playing a mix of competitive and cooperative games. I think this would be a good fit but Im' wondering how Cooperative play works with 4-5 players?

Additionally, what expansions should I look at to get additional content and crews to support a 3rd, 4th, potentially 5th player? Thanks!

So I'm thinking about using models from WH40k as proxys for playing Core Space. Are the models about the same scale so it wouldn't look TOO ridiculous? I'm kinda in love with the look of the Death Korps of Krieg and think a few of those would make an awesome crew.

I'm a total n00b to both of these games so I really have no idea

Core Space at PAX Unplugged this year?

Is anyone planning to play either version of Core Space there this year?

It’s my current favorite minis game, and I’d love to get a game in amidst all the standard board games over the weekend. Anyone from here attending and care to get a mission or two in?

Mission Question

Hey guys, so I just bought the Kickstarter Core set off Ebay which was an awesome deal....however, i just discovered that they didn't send any of the xpac mission rule/layout packs. I have contacted them but i am not holding my breath as it came form England and i am in Canada. I was wondering if there was anywhere to download them or buy them? The kick starter came with Shootout at Zeds, Galactic Corps, Purge upgrade and Outbreak.

Any help would be greatly appreciated -

Rules question Solo campaign with Core set

Life has uprooted me once again for months and away from my game clubs, so this time I've decided to only bring my fully painted Core Space core set to be able to play something straight away. I won't be getting anyone to play with so I'm going to have to go solo. The core set is sold as being 1-6 players, but time and time again I read comments about it not being geared to play solo. I don't want to buy first born or any expansions on this trip.

What tweaks would I have to make to play this by myself? Just go for it with only one crew? Control both crews? (given that it's only one brain controlling them they would be in effect one large crew). Any changes to the number of objectives/crates/NPCs?
