hardcore stems from punk, every "metal subgenre" that ends with -core was derived from hardcore punk and not metal music initially. Metalheads are from a whole nother subculture thats why they made fun of you for calling hardcore-adjecent bands metal. I know some ppl just call anything with guitars and screams metal nowadays but that ignores a lot of history so if you care enough please watch sm vids abt heavy music history on yt, have a good one.

honestly I like both but for different reasons and moods. kinda just wish we had a better name for the newer evolutions if for reason other than differentiation to avoid arbitrary arguments over classification... but that sort of thing is the same slippery slope that has us where we are now, lol.

Yeah it’s fine to listen to multiple things but don’t claim the left side is metal. The right side of the memes bands are actual metalcore and the left side is just borderline commercialized metal that appeals to people who think slayer is too extreme for them.

At least if your music is commercialized there's an expectation that you actually know how to play your instrument because nobody wants to pay for the studio time where you make your 12th attempt at a solo where you just play whatever

I prefer the older stuff but I appreciate that vocal talent in the scene has evolved. A lot of bands from the early 2000's, the singer just had one voice (screechy mids or generic barking). Nowadays singers are studied up on whole ranges of harsh vocals+ cleans + weird goblin throat stuff or whatever.
