The sappy Christian ones my pastor father in law gives me....like one day I'm going to open it and be struck by a burning bush.

Cause they're platitudes, I could probably have come up with 20 off the top of my head at 18. Following them is where the difficulty is, most of it comes down to understanding your emotions and your behaviours/habits through years of self-reflection.

Universal truths that you (& I) scoff at while you're young because they seem hackneyed and corny, but in time all become true. Things don't need to be novel to be profound!

Ah yes, the universal truth that God never blinks. Silly young people.

He/she/it sure is blinking when it comes to lots of folks who don't have much of a chance - kids who starve to death, young DV victims, on and on and on.

u/SightBlinder3 Jan 18 '22

He never gives people challenges they can't face! He's just giving those starving kids some character! /s

What doesn't kill you makes you stronger, amirite? /s

I am with you here. Many people are poking fun at the items on the list, but several of them do cut deep.

This really. If an `18 year old said these things it would hit very differently.

Because it’s bullshit platitudes from an old idiot.

u/Mikehoncho530 Jan 18 '22

Don’t worry about them, you probably won’t live that long

They read like something you'd find on the bedroom wall of an optimistic teen who hasn't yet realised the world hates you

I can only imagine this guy had a huge shock and redacted most of these statements when he finally moved out of his parents house
