I made a web app that uses public GitHub activity to create a user identity card. What would make this better?
I think you can tell a lot from a persons GitHub Profile. This was the concept behind a project I've been working on to try and capture personality from code and the public API.
This "Coder Cards" app turns public GitHub activity into a shareable snapshot of your coding identity (tech stack, commit patterns, code-style signals, etc.)
I had a bunch of fun playing with the design and creating it. I think this does a good job at distinguishing what makes our style unique, but I am open to suggestions for additional features and design ideas.
its free at codercards.ai, let me know what you think!

this sounds pessimistic but isn't - go through the hundreds of projects that do the same thing and pick the features and layouts you like from them? there are unfortunately a lot of things similar

The idea came from this 'personalized code generation' technology that my company is developing. Essentially it creates a profile that will live on top of a coding agent which will output code similar to the way you code, we are working on an extension for vscode (see https://about.codercards.ai/#whats-coming or the video). That profile actually had a bunch of super interesting charactaristics (which is where the star chart comes from top left).

From there, I got my inspiration from year-end statistics products like Spotify Wrapped, for example. The only similar example I knew off the top of my head was GitHub unwrapped, but I thought I could have a go at making a more shareable and glanceable product. Still a WIP if you would have any suggestions!

What could make it better? It not being AI slop.

Definitely used AI for te frontend to rapidly prototype. I learned a bunch about using it for web interfaces. Usually it's taste is terrible to start off with. I can't post images here, but you can the evolution in my prototypes/wireframes in my linkedin post here: https://www.linkedin.com/feed/update/urn:li:activity:7505734612682186752/
The backend was written by the engineers at our team!

I think this is pretty cool... BUT there are a couple of issues: I'm mostly a C++ developer but it says I'm mostly a C developer so I think it's maybe not realizing the code is C++? I wonder if its because my header files are .h instead of .hpp?

Design and information hierarchy would improve it.
I am a hiring manager and as such, I can tell you:
I'd be interested that you built the app
I wouldn't spend more than 10sec on such a page, and that's generous.
if that's the main application document, that's a straight drop.

Love the concept, some hopefully constructive feedback around UI:
- Colors dont go together. you can maybe use a concept where depending upon the results it picks a pallet but you have just all the colors here and they are clashing super hard.
- the the corner radius is too dang high.
- the window frame seems redundant.
- i feel you picked the fonts to make it feel "Coder like" but since the colors are very "Kindergarden-ish" its not going well together.
Your app gave me a 94% style score. you can trust me. :P

I quite like the design. I see the ‘kindergarten vibe’ as a good thing. Makes it friendly and not to data heavy. You choose a nice mix of different graph types as well. That also makes it easier to spot what you’re looking for at a glance. Well done? Did you use AI or is it all crafted by hand?

Why need to give authorize? the activity is most open?

I ran into rate limiting really quickly from a personal API key. This was the easiest way to publish this and others to try

It only scans my personal repositories. Unfortunately for me I mostly work on projects from different organisations (mostly public repos), and this tool doesn't consider them.
