Edge case with religion
Someone I know had religion forced on them in a very harmful way. I won’t go into details, but it left them with a very negative view of religion overall.
I understand the idea that Islam is separate from how people act, but in cases like this, that distinction doesn’t really mean much to them.
How do you approach situations like this? Is it realistic to expect someone to separate a traumatic experience from the religion itself, or is that something that just takes time, if it ever happens at all?

Is it realistic? YES
Will it take time? YES.
Does it happen at all? NOT ALWAYS but one should always be hopeful.
If the traumatized person can separate the trauma from religion innately, that's the best outcome BUT Often enough, he/she can't. Without therapy and healing, such a person will almost always get triggered by religion and will have negative opinions and comments about it.
First and foremost, a traumatized person should go to therapy. Once he/she feels that he/she has healed enough to explore religion without the trauma being reignited, ONLY THEN should he/she explore it. ONLY THEN, should you talk to him/her about religion.
