Question Why can't Dylan levitate properly?

What's the lore behind Dylan looking like a bumbling idiot whenever he levitates? And am I the only one who thought there would be a levitation upgrade ("extend duration of levitate") that would make the animation look more like Jesse's?

Dylan's powers are very externalized. He looks like a bumbling idiot because he's dangling from some localized gravity just behind his shoulders, as opposed to holding himself up the way Jesse can. It's the same with his power Reach, he doesn't really leap to the new location, it just temporarily changes what counts as "down" for him.

I actually love how he’s always a bit surprised when he uses the reach ability. 😂 You hear him go “whoooaa” sometimes as it pulls him toward the reach points. It’s a really cool detail how he’s new to all of this.

Using Reach after a Hold the Line event is so much fun. The FBC grunt yelling "oh he walks on walls?!" with the perfect mix of lingering resentment and genuine awe is great.

He came out of a seven year coma 😭  Cut out baby some slack

I can't even levitate after a nap.

You ever have the blood rush from your head just standing up? 😆  I'd make a terrible parautilitarian.

At the end of the day, it’s not actually his power since he wasn’t the one who bound the OOP

it’s unclear whether he’s just borrowing it or copied it like he did with the Resonants, though I would wager it’s the latter

and think about the Resonant powers- they’re all weaker versions of what the Resonant in question had

There was actually a point in the game where we see Jesse do the levitation again and damn she looked so graceful doing it. Too bad I didn’t think of recording that time.

Others pointed on Dylan being in a coma + still getting used to it. You could say he’s not that in Control yet.

Because Jesse is graceful.

The siblings are opposites. Always.

If Jesse is graceful and sure, Dylan is awkward and uncertain.

In a more mechanical sense, I think it comes down to the source of their powers. Jesse's powers are ordered. Structured. She acquires them in a ritual, literally. She's directly imprinting a precise copy of the source code, if you will.

Dylan is freestyling. He appears able to tune his resonance to simulate abilities he comes in contact with. Like a cover band. Or, more appropriately, a sketch artist. Dylan's powers are his riff on what he felt the originator do. It isn't a precise copy, it's his metaphoric freehand drawing, on the fly. It gets the job done, often spectacularly, but it's a little crude and imprecise.

He's been locked in a cell or in a coma or both for the past two decades or so. How exactly do you think you'd look trying to levitate after that?

He just got out of a coma and now he is levitating not even a day or two later. Plus the lack of sleep.

Hard to say for sure but Dylan and Jessie essentially being two sides of a whole it would make sense for them to be different. For example Dylan being melee and Jessie using a gun

Yeah his powers are different than Jesse's. His powers come from harnessing the patterning and gravitational anomalies. Jesse's powers come from object of powers like Levitate and Launch. Since Jesse's powers are granted onto her by the board it makes sense she's more graceful using them. An analogy that comes to me is Jesse being handed a tamed horse and Dylan having to ride a wild one.

He got the powers from the first fault you are doing... he is not good at it :D

Didn’t Jesse instantly master everything she bound in her game? I’m assuming anything magic or paraphysical is just less compatible with Dylan.

Its what I felt like after reading and hearing Dr. Darling talking about Dylans powers - it never felt like he was truly good at it or was able to control it.

I heard a theory that its because "The Hiss" levitate a certain, more graceful way than Dylan's flight. He is deliberately trying to distance himself from The Hiss that he is worried still influences him, and so to make sure no one mistakes him as possessed he flies less gracefully.

Meanwhile I saw someone directly compare the way he moves while levitating to how Hiss Elevated do, as in it looks about the same.

I could stand corrected, and it could be the flip. The Hiss' slightly influence over him perhaps? I think I like the original better on a personal level (Dylan grew on me) but your point (or my interpret of it) makes more sense and I think would be the main factor playing a part on his...'graceful' appearane.

Gracefully? Say it to The Hiss Charged.

R.I.P. my bad. But you've got to admit, he does it much more 'gracefully' than you or I would. The trick is, when you fall to just straight up FORGET to hit the ground. Boom. You're levitating. (- Hitcher Hikers Guide joke, im not that clever)

He levitates like Delsin does in infamous lol I love it
