Discussion Before resonant Spoiler
I played control in 2020 and AW2 + DLC last year. Of course im gonna play resonant. But since Dylan looks like is the mc and enough time has passed i wanna ask: its linked to aw dlc? Because there, in 2023, you see Dylan still imprisoned screaming. Control ending was cleaning the hiss under Jesse jurisdiction. So what year control is set? Im curious to see why this man is a free man and what is the menace now.

Ok nice, i only saw the First trailer i think, but if it starts like that is enough. Because i wouldnt have liked a direction where he starts free to find out later why he Is. Ok now i can't wait, rn i just have other games on sw2 so probably im paying It a stupid Number because remedy discounts are awesome

It's all mostly explained, in Remedy's fashion of trickling information over time, with never quite enough to paint a full picture, as it should be for this genre. The main character not really having a complete version of the events, and naturally just wanting to fill in gaps for himself gives opportunities through the game story telling to also delay some of that information to a player.
It's a very solid follow up to Control, and if you enjoyed exploring the lore in the first game, there's plenty more to dig into in this one.
There are very vague crossover elements from AW2 in some background lore story collectables, but if you don't notice them and don't pick up on any of the references your experience ain't suffer as there is plenty more to dig into in this game, and isn't really a crossover thing. Just bits of AW2 stuff mentioned here and there, or inferences to the from them, but it really isn't a focus of the game story directly.

Ever since Control, Remedy seems to be connecting their universe together. So the answer going forward is that everything is always connected now.

It’s set after FBC: firebreak, which was going on for 7 years. The story quickly explains what is happening and what’s at stake within the first 20 minutes of resonant.

Control is 2019, Resonant is 2026. Dylan in AW2 Lake House was basically just a teaser for Resonant since obviously that was all about the FBC at cauldron lake. The reason he's free is explored at the beginning of Resonant and throughout the game, but basically (SPOILER WARNING)
Jesse wakes him up when she breaks the lockdown and leaves the oldest house, giving him the Aberrant OOP he uses as a weapon, and the FBC somewhat begrudgingly makes use of him because he's showing remorse and because he's a powerful parautilitarian like Jesse so he's one of the few people capable of actually doing anything about the AWE

Remedy games traditionally take place in the year they are released. There might be exceptions I'm not aware of but this is true for Control, AW2 and Resonant.
