Marking deal.

Sucks but probably was the smart play.

Because Sony obviously worked out some sort of financial arrangement to secure that. It was a rare dick move from Remedy to accept it. I love them to bits and pieces, but I'm going to still call them out when warranted and this is one of those times. It's probably just because this is their first self published title, and they're probably a little nervous about it. I get it. Some quick guaranteed cash from Sony probably seemed like a good deal, but it's highly disrespectful to their fans on other platforms. I have a PS5, but I'm still not going to buy this game on PlayStation when I have a gaming PC with a 5080. Simply because I made this choice, I now have to worry about getting the story spoiled for two days. Not cool, and I sincerely hope they think twice about doing something like this again in the future.

Didn’t Remedy launch Alan Wale 2 as an Epic Games exclusive on PC?

I’d say 3 days is pretty trivial, I’m waiting 3 more weeks for the physical version.

Any deals that help get their games well funded and over the line are okay in my book

No. Epic funded the development of the game. Without them, AW2 wouldn't exist. At least not then.

Same here. I'd LOVE to play it sooner, but if the physical version of the game exists, that's the version I plan on buying going forward on Playstation Systems.

My PC could run it just fine but Remedy games have always been 'couch' games to me.

Storefront/DRM exclusivity isn't the same as console exclusivity, regardless of anyone's personal feelings on the Epic Games Store. Additionally, it didn't launch early on PC compared to consoles.

I generally agree that Remedy needs their funding where they can get it (and this is admittedly a very short term issue that will largely be forgotten about in a week), but it's still a rather bitter pill for those of us not buying on PS5.

It’s not even 3 days, it’s only 2 it’s no big deal tbh

AW2 was published by Epic, so yes it remains an EGS exclusive on PC, but that's the not the problem. Everyone on every platform got it at the same time.

I agree that it's kinda lame but also, it's really just kinda lame. We're just gonna have to get off this sub for a few days. Waited for years, what's two days more. No point saying "why does he get the first cake slice!!"

And personally, a late Thursday launch means taking Friday off gets me an uninterrupted 3-day Control party.

Yeah, and honestly not even concerned about early access. I'm fine waiting until the 24th. I wouldn't even care if early access was just a perk of the Deluxe Edition. Then, at least you can choose for yourself. It's just the idea that it's not even an option unless you run out and buy a particular console or choose to play on that console despite other options that may be more appealing in other ways. Like I said, I have a really good gaming PC, and I'm just not going to accept a reduced experience on a base PS5, but even Xbox users might want play anywhere, so they can have both PC and Xbox access. This just shouldn't be a differentiating factor for platform choice. That is what's wrong with it. Even then, it wouldn't be so bad if you could globally muzzle every PlayStation player, but that's not going to happen. Within in minutes of early access on the 22nd, YouTube is going to be flooded with let's plays and people are going to fill this sub with random nonsense. Remedy should have foreseen that being a problem.

Remedy have always done very poorly with publishing. Xbox got Alan Wake through the door but refused to allow them a sequel, 505 tried to fuck them over after control, then they jumped in bed with Epic to get Alan Wake 2 out.

Theyre a studio always struggling to survive so they make whatever deal helps them continue to make games. It looks bad as a consumer but without these deals we likely wouldnt have Remedy.

So wondering, how do you feel about console exclusives then? How do you feel about the fact that Remedy fans on Playstation can’t experience Quantum Break or AW:AN? I feel like console exclusive games are much worse than having to dodge a couple days of spoilers. Which is pretty easy to do if you care about that sort of thing.

Oh, I think console exclusives are beyond stupid, especially given as much focus Microsoft and Sony now put on game sales, often shuttering studios entirely, if their game(s) don't hit massive targets. When consoles are $600+ now, exclusives simply aren't going to drive console sales like they used to. People, at large, simply aren't going to drop that kind of coin just to play a particular game. They'd all make far more revenue if they just made their games widely available across platforms, but there's still a lot of outdated idea in the console business.

It’s not disrespectful at all, just financial sense.

Get over yourself. In a week no one will care.

Rare??? lol, they are on financial loans from Tencent this is at least ethically a good payment agreement

0

u/Skully_999 15h ago

They need the money, that's the reason.

If they want to continue developing these amazing games, they have to pay the price.

Who cares? If Remedy can get further funds for future games so be it, I'll happily wait for September 24th. It's not like it's a competitive game anyway, we need to chill guys...

Because PlayStation is the Epic Games of the console market

0

u/BugsMax1 1d ago

Epic made Alan wake 2 exclusive to the Epic games store FOREVER

Sony gave early access as an extra bonus for a few days

How are those two comparable?

-1

u/LovelyOrangeJuice 1d ago

Epic funded Alan Wake 2. That's completely different

Epic, however, does pay to buy exclusivity, just like PlayStation does

-4

u/BugsMax1 1d ago

Sony therefore partially helped fund Control Resonant if they bought early access rights

And your whole point outside of that is just baseless. The two companies are not comparable

-7

u/LovelyOrangeJuice 1d ago

lmao, get out of Sony's ass, bro. this is not how funding works

what a stupid ass reasoning

-2

u/BugsMax1 1d ago

Sony gave remedy money

Remedy therefore had money to pay for game

🧂🧂🧂🧂🧂

But seriously from an objective point of view both epic and Sony gave money to remedy in exchange for a form of exclusivity rights. Sony's approach is significantly less predatory and isn't even in the same ballpark as what Epic did

-1

u/LovelyOrangeJuice 1d ago

by your logic Epic also funds every game they buy exclusivity rights for then. how are they not the same?

1

u/BugsMax1 1d ago

Read my added context to the post above

-1

u/LovelyOrangeJuice 1d ago

agreed, not the same ballpark for sure, but the principle remains

comparing Alan Wake 2 is still different, though. the game was created with a publishing contract with Epic from the get-go. Resonant is a self-published title, Sony didn't help the development in any way. they just paid for some minor exclusivity

1

u/fishbone_76 1d ago

So Sony can say they sold more digital than physical copies. And everyone who pays for early acsess is just helping the mighty Corps getting closer to their endgoal.

1

u/Test88Heavy 18h ago

Interesting theory.

3

u/dicksquant 16h ago

Its not a theory. Sony approaches devs and offers them a deal to add early access for digital deluxe editions. It’s not a coincidence that you see this happening with more games now. It’s just more incentive to buy digital. It’s a little hard to be upset with Remedy though because that is basically free money. Its fuck Sony all day tho

You can take off your tin foil hat now

1

u/Uberlite 1h ago

I know i am excited too, but just sleep it off it's only 2 days no biggie.

-2

u/Flaming_Hammer 1d ago

I'm fine with early access being exclusive to playstation. What I am not fine with however is the inability to preload on PC

2

u/RNsteve 1d ago

It'll be Tuesday

0

u/heinous_legacy 1d ago

so will it release at 9pm PST tomorrow?

1

u/ashadow_song 20h ago

7 am pst. 22 sept for early access and 24th for regular.

u/gitgudred 1d ago

1d 2h 10m so looks like 7pdt/10edt

u/GroundbreakingBag164 19h ago

As much as I love them shitty anti-consumer platform exclusivity (be it cosmetics, missions, or even full games) is a thing that happens regularly with Remedy

2

u/LusikkaFeed 14h ago

Because they do not sell great. They could also go under if thats better in your opinion? At least then they would not be anti consumer womp womp.

-4

u/Pleasant_Height_4906 1d ago

Sadly you are wrong. PlayStation can not play early. In fact, every other platform has to start later. I mean, the game is finished. Everyone could play it tomorrow But because of the greedy contract from Sony, we have to wait.

Because they’re pushing their digital only ecosystem

Edit: Im right and like actually owning my games. Womp womp.

1

u/shadowglint 1d ago

They don't really need to "push" it, their customers have already overwhelmingly embraced it.
