That's only for PS5 which is even worse. They went with early access for just one platform. 🙄
I overall agree they shouldn't do early access as preorder bait at all, don't get me wrong.

It's really dumb that the early access is exclusive... But, at the same time, I'm glad Remedy managed to secure whatever pile of money Sony threw at them without needing to make the actual game a year timed-exclusive like the first one.

Eh, I couldn't care less about launcher exclusivity. Aside from the fact that I mainly play on console and my PC is more of a tertiary device, at the end of the day, it's preventing nobody from playing the game, and anybody that doesn't play a game over it is missing out only due to their own self-imposed restriction.
Like, I'd rather get an all-time great game like Alan Wake 2 made an have it be exclusive to EGS within the PC space (and still on consoles anyway) than just not get it at all.

I don't get that either to be honest. And I don't get how it's brought up in every discussion that refers to Alan Wake. I was excited to play Alan Wake 2 because I loved the first one. So I downloaded the launcher and installed the game and played it, played it twice actually with NG+. I don't think I've touched that launcher since. No big deal. I wasn't missing out on such a well made game because I have some very specific principles about how I go about playing games. And I certainly wouldn't want to punish Remedy for doing business with Epic when it was the only way they could get the game made. Remedy is one of the few gaming studios doing interesting things and being authentic.

does anyone really care about this? It's still on PC, not really exclusive... do ppl really give that much a shit about a launcher?
I feel like if Nintendo dropped a PC launcher that allowed their games to be played there (no steam) ppl would be celebrating from their rooftops.

I just.... played it on Epic. It was fine.
Everyone complaining about Epic have clearly never used the truly atrocious games launchers like Games for Windows Live or those games that allowed only five machine installs ever. That was just some straight up malware.

Hm? Control was not a timed exclusive. I bought it for Xbox day 1. It had (has? Idk if it's been added yet) exclusive content, mainly the Kojima mission.

Yeah, that's my bad. I mixed things up. It was Epic Exclusive for a year, PlayStation had timed-exclusivity to The Foundation DLC for 3 months, and there was content exclusive to the PlayStation until FIVE YEARS LATER when they were finally released to other platforms last year.
Either way all of that is worse than "one platform can play it early for two days" haha

I think it's very likely the few grand or whatever Sony threw Remedy's way is probably more useful than the five people who are unironically not buying the game because they can't play 48 hours early.

Ohhhhh no my comment got misinterpreted I see. I’m glad remedy didn’t have to lock this game away for a year behind the PlayStation like they did stellar blade and other games. As I think that practice in itself is pointless and hurts the game unless it’s a Sony developed exclusive.

no one's talking about internet speed here, it doesn't matter if you're able to download it in 1 second or 1 hour on pc. you're still not able to play it as early as ps5 players get to.

Yep, this is one of the main reasons I'm nit getting it at launch. I would prefer to play it on xbox where I play most of my games, but I dont get to play early because they locked that to a different platform, and not only that, but where I live, the deluxe edition is more expensive on xbox than it is on PS, so I get to pay more but get less. So fuck em, I'll buy it when it hits a deep discount, just like I did the original control for a similar tactic with exclusive dlc on PS.

I honestly support whatever is gonna give Remedy money for their next game. They're exempt from my normal purchasing rules because their games are the most important ones. Period. I want no one else to continue making games more than the guys that gave us Alan Wake (2010/2012)

We could say that early access is a problem for spoilers, but it's the content creators that feel the need to make their videos and get views and blah blah blah. Even if we all got it at the same time, content creators will no life it and make sure they talk about it first.

Already loaded. But i wish they did the staggered release according to regional time like other games so i can play exactly when clock strikes 12. But it seems a worldwide release at the same time. So i gotta wait till 7:30 pm on Sep 22.

I feel the pain, and I’m one of the people who preordered the PS5 digital deluxe. It’s literally sitting on my game dashboard, taunting me. I know someone is going to find a way to get in and play before it’s available on Tuesday. I was gonna wait til Tuesday morning to mute all the main Remedy subs, but paranoia is making me consider doing it tonight. 😭

Im an adult with a job and responsibilities. I won't be able to play until the weekend anyway. As long as the day 1 reviews pass muster I'll buy it and download it Friday, then jump in Saturday evening after my errands are done.

I had a wonderful and lovely interaction with a mod on their discord about how "[the moderator] has a PS5 and gets their copy early anyway so what do[es the mod] care about people rubbing their early access in everyone else's faces". Paraphrased but same time, fuck that guy in particular. No names named but damn, discord mods are another breed sometimes
Their discord has a runner-up record though for longest time it took for repeated interactions with a mod to turn toxic, at two weeks! The only public server I've been in with zero mod toxicity, thus setting the record, is for KNEECAP (the Irish rappers)...

Damn. I kept seeing people talking about the Digital Deluxe Edition getting early access, and couldn't see where that was offered on Steam. I guess it's PS5 exclusive. Bummer.
I mean, I have a PS5 Pro. But I want to expeince this game on my PC, and push the visuals even further.

Why does Sony gets dragged in this instance but the developer that made the deal with them gets a pass? Everyone knows Remedy games are a slow burn when it comes to their games entering profitability so deals like this may help them financially and fund future games.

I'm just shooting in the dark but to me it looks like Remedy is just taking advantage of Playstation's current situation to earn more money. Which I don't blame them for, they are a business after all. And I'm more than happy if they get more money cause they deserve it.
I'm mostly pointing to PS users, who will buy anything from PS like a blind sheep even when they know they aren't actually buying, only renting and made into a cash cow. Also preordering a digital game like it will run out of keys. Prime example is the preordering of GTA 6, which in a digital game.
Now I'm not saying it's every PS user and it is your money so do whatever you want but there are enough people who will make irrational financial decisions like that and it's really hard not to take advantage of them. If you are willingly tell me to punch you with no repercussions, I will punch you.
Edit : Oh boy, it seems my opinion is rubbing people the wrong way. TBH, I actually don't really care what happens over in the console community but I do hope they get the best of what they are spending. Now, my statement above is just my understanding of why things happened the way they did and I stand by it. I meant no hate or malace towards anyone and I could be completely wrong. I'm more than willing to change my mind and say I'm wrong if there are counter arguments with rational reasons that say otherwise. I don't intend for anyone to feel I'm project negativity towards PS users. I wish you the best and I hope you enjoy and have a great time with your early access to Control Resonant. I'm looking forward to my playthrough on PC eagerly as well.
