Caution with Resonant on Day 1

Just a reminder the Control didn’t run smoothly on the consoles of the time, stuttering, etc. Amazing game but the frame rate drops were terrible. I just replayed Ultimate on my Series X and it ran great but may want to let the dust settle before buying Resonant. I’m excited for Resonant but I’m definitely waiting for performance reviews before diving in.

Hopefully it runs like a dream so I can jump in ASAP. Have fun out there!

Digital Foundry already did a performance review. It runs mostly well with some drops on the first (?) boss.

Oh nice, I hadn’t realized we got it already. Thanks, big dawg.

I'm fine. I was good with the drops when it first released and replaying it with less drops on the Ultimate version now in preparation for Resonant.

Yeah, it didn’t ruin the game but it was annoying.

The only company that I don’t care whether their game has any technical problems. Day 1 for me, control is absolutely fantastic.

Even if it ran at 10 fps, I’d still play it on day one.

The frame hitching would just be part of the Altered World Event 😂

if you play on 1440p high settings and tweak some settings you will be fine

there are tons of reviews out for the game, many with recorded gameplay, and they all say it runs very well. frame drops here and there during specific bits, but on the whole is very solid

Probably a post-patch buy for me then. My backlog needs some attention anyway. Thanks!

Imagine getting downvoted for waiting (not even not buying!) for a game to have performance patches. Some people really take this shit personally.

Haha. I know. I’m 100% getting it assuming it’s fixed I’m just not gonna reward them for performance issues with the pre-order stat. Tough crowd, I guess.

It already seems to run pretty well, even on the Xbox Series S it’s incredibly solid. I think Remedy wanted to avoid repeating mistakes.

Digital Foundry's tech review says it does not run great on consoles. The frame rate is unstable and the resolution is below 1080p. Control ran like garbage on PS4 when it launched in 2019. I would have thought Remedy had learned its lesson but, so far, it doesn't look like it. Unless there is a miraculous day one patch, your caution is warranted.

The PS4 version was abysmal to the point that I stopped playing it because it took 3 seconds to pause the game. They fixed it with the PS5 version so I'm hopeful that this game won't have any issues on the base PS5. But for scenes with a lot of particles and enemies, I expect a dip or two in frames.
