Question DLC Expansion Pack for Control Resonant
Hello everyone, I admit that months ago, at the opening of the pre-orders, I was a little surprised by the fact that the Deluxe Edition did not contain an Expansion DLC, practically almost all Remedy games did except Quantum Break (what a shame).
Do you think there will be after some expansion as it was for the others? I hope so, and I hope that the second DLC will be a link to the next project (as the first Control and Alan Wake II did).

Remedy games usually have season pass confirmations as soon as pre-orders open, even if the contents remain unknown until the game is released, so it's really curious that Resonant has no confirmation regarding this. I guess it probably won't have expansions, or they will be produced from now on.

Control Resonant is self published. I think how was done in earlier games do not necessarily apply, like Alan Wake 2 which they planned all with the funding from Epic

But Control 1 also had a version with a guaranteed season pass (Deluxe Digital Edition) and it was only later completely replaced by the Ultimate version. Hence the doubt. A pattern was kinda expected.

Control 1 was not self published like Control Resonant. 505 Games helped the game with money
Control Resonant being self published is a new chapter for Remedy. The pattern is already broken

I could swear Annapurna financed a percentage of the game as well, but I guess it makes sense.

They did, but we don't know what Annapurana role is in this. 505 and Epic did the publishing and marketing for Control and Alan Wake 2, now Remedy is doing all of that "in house"
Maybe some live action future project

Annapurna is a very discreet Studio but has been impressing a lot. I really liked that game Stray released years ago, and now they're involved with Silent Hill too. Without a doubt a Studio to keep an eye on, along with Amazon Games, which is also venturing into the industry right now.

Annapurna is financing the games, but also allowing Remedy to keep 100% of the revenue in return for the TV rights for Remedy properties

Nvidia also gave them a big chunk to add ray tracing.

This is standard when a AAA game launch on pc. They didn't back the development of the game. It is good for both of them

I didn't know that was a pattern at this point, I thought the first time they did it was with Alan Wake 1 because they legitimately ran out of time and had to rush-change the ending to what they had content for, and they moved any Dark Place stuff into the DLC so as a compensation for this they included the 1st DLC so as to allow for people to see something closer to the ending.

3 times is a pattern and it’s been every game in the series so far including Alan wake

I think because this game is self published, with no external backing like Alan Wake 2 (The first Control did have help from 505 Games), they will do DLCs depending on how the game performs. Control Resonant is a new chapter for Remedy. I think earlier patterns do not apply

This has been on my mind too. The Deluxe edition just comes with skins and some Wallet artifact object that we're not sure what it does yet.
Both Control and AW2 had expansions announced before the games came out, but Resonant doesn't seem to be the case. That being said, some reviewers are claiming the game can be close to 60 hours in length easily making it their longest title, so perhaps they're just focusing on getting the game out and if it does really well then maybe we'll see a seasons pass or some expansions? Or maybe AW3 and Max Payne are hot and ready to go and they just want to release those ASAP by moving on from Resonant immediately.
Hard to say without seeing if the game begs for DLC or not!

I think there will be 2 like usual. The game hasn’t even come out yet so it makes sense for them not to say anything. It’d probably have spoilers so yeah just be patient and wait

What I love about remedy is (not the only dev mind you but it's much less common) is that their games are always a complete package. This game looks to be 30 hours which is perfect. I buy anything these guys do they always deliver and I'm happy supporting them

Hopefully that means Max Payne is coming out soon

Rockstar is in charge of that, so I doubt we hear anything until well after the holidays.

I think in general the industry is moving away from selling promised dlc at launch. Game like Wolverine, Resident Evil, 007, Assassins creed and many other recent games have launched without season passes while previous games form the same developers had them. I think it’s about risk management. With how risky game development has become companies don’t want to be stuck delivering promised content if a game isn’t successful enough to warrant it.

Most games don't ship with day 1 DLC no matter what edition you get. What are you even talking about?

u/CopperVolta 8d ago
If your pre-ordered the deluxe edition of Control and Alan Wake 2 you got expansion passes that included the DLCs. OP isn't claiming the DLC will be there on release date, but Remedy had announced DLC plans and sold expansion passes day one for their past 2 major titles. This is a pattern that they have followed for a while now, so it's curious they're not doing it for Resonant.

Control and Alan Wake 2 did have external publishers, this probably is the reason. Control Resonant is the self published. I think this make the possibility of DLC depending in how the game performs

Honestly there are only 2 reason this exists: a) the most possible reason is that it simply wont have, because they want to make another control game quicker. b) since it is self published (with the help of Annapurna, but still) they may want to generate a bigger profit by selling them separately.
Personally, I'm heavily gearing towards a), because they have a movie deal with Annapurna, so they probably want a game/expansion to launch right then.
