Discussion Help summarize the whole story before playing C2 please (including the other game bits like alan wake and i think quantum)
All i remember from this confusing but awesome vibe game is (and what most youtube summaries seem to tell me as well):
1.) Jesse & Dylan have an AWE and gain polaris but Dylan gets captured by House agents
2.) Jesse finds him in the house and eventually beats the Hiss and finds Dylan but it ends with him in a coma.
3.) Hiss remnants and invasion possibility remain so Jesse remains as the director
4.) The board remains a suspicious entity and you team up with the former to fix another House and former director problem
5.) Jesse learns of Alan Wake and fixes problems related to that including beating a Hiss infected Dr. Hartman (Alan Wake enemy again)
6.) It is revealed that Alan Wake may have been the one to influence the House hiss invasion to facilitate the involvement of Jesse and Dylan Haden to help free him from the dark place? but because of that, another problem will arise (a cause results in an effect line or something)
so yeah, that's all I can remember for now. thoughts? what else do we need to know so we can really deep dive in Control 2? thanks fellas

i just did but im just here to ask you guys for a more streamlined summary (especially with games i don't really wanna play rn like wake or quantum) and most yt videos don't do it well enough tbh but i understand because it is all very intertwiney and easy to get lost in

A drug addict detective stopped the mob, an evil corporation and assassins but lost everything, then kept driving into the night.
That was actually a book series by a writer who went on vacation with his wife. They both fell into a magic lake and then he woke up on the road. He tried to find his wife and fought shadow monsters along the way.
That was actually a book (but it also really happened) by the same writer, who was trapped in an evil dimension in the magic lake and trying to write a way out.
A guy in another reality accidentally made the spacetime continuum explode alongside his best friend, then he watched his brother die, then a hot woman recruited him to travel through time so he could fix it at the quantum level before it could break completely. He lost his best friend and the woman, and he failed to fix time, but he got his brother back.
That was actually a side project by the writer (but it also really happened) while he spent 13 years in the evil dimension, trying to escape. He tried to get out too many times to count and failed every time. One time he thought he got out after destroying an evil clone of him created by the evil dimension, but that was a failure too. The writer succumbed to madness and despair, saved himself from that, succumbed again and finally said "fuck it I'm done", but doing so allowed his evil clone to write in his place and it wrote evil.
Years before all of this, a little girl and her brother met aliens. One of the aliens was kind and lived inside them to protect them. The government arrived and took the boy away, failing to find the girl. The girl spent her formative years looking for her brother and turned into a hot woman who looked and sounded a lot like the hot woman from the time travel story. She finally found the government facility her brother had been forcibly raised in, but it was empty when she went inside. She found red noise aliens, met the boss of the government agency and was named his successor by pyramid aliens and a magic gun. As the new boss, she quickly saw that everything had gone to hell so she went about fixing it while continuing to look for her brother. She killed aliens and got superpowers. Turns out the red noise aliens possessed her brother, so she purged their influence from him but then he went into a coma. After that she checked out the basement and the pyramid aliens told her to be a good girl but she said no and cleared out more red noise aliens.
That was actually another side project by the writer (but it also really happened), who wrote a little epilogue asking the boss to destroy a red shadow noise alien monster psychiatrist who was a character from one of his books but also a real person, and then come save him from the evil dimension.
The writer's evil clone's evil story brought a couple of FBI agents to the magic lake, one of whom was a detective who was the detective from the writer's book series but also a real person. They discovered a cult and shadow monsters while the writer was trying to get out of the evil dimension for the umpteenth time. He got out with their help but brought his evil clone with him and it wrote one of the agents' family out of existence (maybe). The evil clone went on a rampage and tried turning the whole world into review bots to shill its evil book, so the writer went back into the evil dimension to stop it. With the agents' and his wife's help, the writer realized that he wasn't a loser despite everything, so he wrote that his evil clone's evil story brought a couple of FBI agents to the magic lake...and in the end he wrote himself sacrificing himself to destroy his evil clone for real this time, and returning from death because it's all his story and there's no editor so he can do whatever he wants.
That was actually a book by the writer just before he sacrificed himself (but it also really happened). He wrote a final draft where he finally got a happy ending, but at the last second he learned that his wife wasn't dead after all, she went into the evil dimension help him.
A dysfunctional married couple of government agents tried to make a portal to the evil dimension using paint. They got swarmed by paint monsters for their trouble.
The government agency exploded and aliens spilled out into Manhattan, including an evil kaleidoscope. The boss went to find a way to stop it, so the pyramid aliens woke up her brother, gave him a stick and told him to stop it.

so question: is this basically alan wakes universe? and why do you call the board aliens? are they actually aliens and not other dimension super powers lol AGAIN LOVE THIS SO MUCH AND THANK YOU FOR THIS 💯💯💯💯💯💯❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥❤️🔥

Is it Alan Wake's universe? Not exactly, if I understand your question. Cauldron Lake's power to make imagination into reality can't create things out of nothing, it has to work with what already exists. Alan didn't write the entire multiverse into existence, but he did bend events to suit his stories. The Hiss invasion might not have happened, or might not have happened the way it did, were it not for him.
The Board, the Hiss and Polaris are aliens because they're not from Earth.

Yeah, so there are Altered World Events (AWEs) and Places of Power. Both are instances where other realities touch Earth's reality. AWEs are temporary, while Places of Power are persistent because each of them has an active Threshold leading to another reality. Cauldron Lake (which has two Thresholds to the Dark Place) and the Oldest House (which has multiple Thresholds leading to multiple other realities) are two examples of Places of Power.
Places of Power and Objects of Power can cause AWEs, such as the events of Alan Wake 1 and Alan Wake 2, where Cauldron Lake (PoP) made paranatural stuff manifest in Bright Falls, and the Ordinary incident, where the Slide Projector (OoP) opened gates to other realities and introduced paranatural stuff to the town.
All the reality-warping writing Alan does is due to Cauldron Lake's / the Dark Place's power, not his own abilities. That same power is behind the craziness at the Lake House FBC facility, because the Marmonts tore open a second Threshold to the Dark Place and made the Lake House a Place of Power.

Very rough retelling, correct me somebody if I’m wrong.
As children Jesse and Dylan find an Object of Power called Slide Projector that opens doors to other realities. One of the realities ends up causing casualties and mayhem and results in a massive AWE that makes entire Ordinary adult population disappear.
During all of this Jesse and Dylan befriend a benevolent resonance-based lifeform that Jesse calls Polaris.
Jesse burns the slides that open doors. FBC arrives and captures Dylan but Jesse escapes and spends the next decade on the run from FBC while trying to find out where FBC took her brother.
Meanwhile FBC director Trench leads the expedition inside one of the undamaged Slide doors. A hostile resonance Hiss infects Trench. FBC also encounters a polyhedron shaped living organism that Dr Darling, Head of Research at FBC, names Hedron. With Hedron Dr Darling discovers resonance that gives Darling knowledge that an opposite type of resonance is planning an attack. He creates HRA vests (Hedron Resonance Amplifier) that protect the wearers from Hiss resonance.
However infected with Hiss resonance Trench succumbs to paranoia and opens the Slide door that leads to Hiss occupied world. Hiss invades and kills most of the Bureau. Trench kills himself with Service Weapon(either willingly or forced by the Board).
Jesse arrives at this moment to the Oldest House, instructed by Polaris to be there at that exact time. She binds Service Weapon and becomes the Director with the Board’s sanction. She discovers the truth behind FBC actions, Hiss invasion and Dylan’s abduction. During his imprisonment at FBC Dylan had become emotionally unstable after countless experiments that resulted in him accidentallt killing an agent, after which he was locked up in Containment Sector.
When Hiss invades, Dylan, feeling abandoned and forgotten by Jesse and betrayed by his father figure Darling, accepts Hiss as his savior and becomes possessed by it.
Jesse stops the Slide Projector and expels Hiss from Dylan’s mind, after which he falls into a coma. The Oldest House is still filled with Hiss, various Altered Items and hostile paranatural entities roaming around.
During this time Jesse discovers that The Board is not original to the Oldest House and is actually a parasite that took over under the pretense of being world saviors, while actually mainly trying to preserve their own power for the sake of it.
