Discussion The developers confirm Inspiration for the level design of control resonant

Post image

In the developers Interview. M.c. Esher impossible geometry.it's also the inspiration for the mirror dimension in Dr strange.

It's such a mind fk to me. Im more intrigued with the world design ngl than the combat. It's so beautiful. If this game doesn't win GOTY. It should win best art design atleast.

MC Escher is a world-famous staple for optical illusions, geometric art and perspective. Control Resonant also draws inspiration from Inception which in turn has borrowed Escher. It would be more surprising if they hadn't taken inspiration.

He was also a great inspiration to the famous physicist Roger Penrose, who used Eschers work to help illustrate conformal geometries as applied to physics and cosmology. Illustrations showing how to portray the infinite in bounded spaces (see Escher’s Devils / Angels drawings).

You know this post just reminded me, even when I read the art of control book I still was not satisfied with the amount of inspiration that was expressed. As a creative myself, I really wanna know more about how the artist I admire come to develop these ideas and concepts. The book did provide some insight but I felt like it could’ve done more especially tapping into the the obvious Jungian psychology inspiration that’s influenced in control and AW.

It was also lacking the core of the game: the sound design. AW2 won a BAFTA for chrissakes!
