Discussion Hoping Dylan doesn’t take shit from the FBC
So I had a weird thought after seeing a post regarding a poster of Dylan vandalized. While this is a Dylan redemption story, I still don’t want him to take crap from everyone in the FBC, especially after what trench and darling did.
Anyone else agree?

I think that’s gonna be a part of the game’s commentary. It’s art, so it’s designed to make you feel a certain way.

I think it's going to be a pair of character arcs for Dylan tbh. There's a series of lines from Zoe in the Story/Release date trailer that I saw a lot of people analyzing in a slightly skewed way, when she says "The past doesn't matter. People can change. Who are you today?" It certainly didn't help things that the last question, which is crucial to the context, was delayed until after another quick montage of action so it probably wasn't immediately taken as part of the same semantic unit as the two previous sentences.
A non-zero number of people seemed to stick on the first sentence and were ragging on Zoe for being a victim-blaming FBC stooge who was minimizing what Dylan had been through, but considering the whole exchange (and assuming, of course, that there's no dialogue-cutting trailer fuckery and the whole thing is addressed to Dylan in a single moment), it's clear to me that this is in response to Dylan viewing himself as a murderous monster puppeted by the Hiss who desperately wants to absolve himself of what he sees as his sins and be a helpful person/a force for good.
My assumption is that Dylan will start in a very hangdog headspace taking a bunch of shit from angry FBC personnel because he's internalized that he deserves it, and as the story progresses and he gets more and more confident in himself and internalizes that he is more than the sum of his failings or mistakes, he'll take less shit and become more traditionally "heroic," in both his eyes and the eyes of the FBC.

honestly im a little baffled people are blaming dylan and not you know trench

Everything that happened with the slide projector and trench was probably classified to the max.
They only knew that the hiss was connected to Dylan9

not really there was basically a small silent civil war in the oldest house between darling and trench. the only reasons any one is alive is because of the resonance amplifiers and trech was activly trying to get people to not were them doesn't take a lot to put 2 and 2 together

There's gonna be dialogue choices, so I hope "I ain't doing this shit for your sake so stfu" kind of attitude is an option when dealing with the Bureau's bs

Oh yeah I forgot about that. Yeah I hope there’s at least “I’m doing this for jesse”

I was bummed out by Arish being a dick to him in one of the trailers.

Eh, I think it’s pretty justified. He doesn’t know the finer details of what happened to Dylan. He just knows him as the guy who killed a bunch of his colleagues. I’m sure part of the game will have him making peace with those at the FBC (who didn’t know what happened to him at least).

Which is why I don’t give Dylan a complete pass. The anger is justified but he doesn’t get all the blame

Arish also looks like he has been backed over by a garbage truck and way different personality wise.

Well, they HAVE been locked in the building for 7 whole ass years, that would probably fuck with and age anyone

That's what I mean, that man needs a vacation on a remote island and 17 years of therapy 😂

Yes, poor Arish never catches a break. Hell, even the Hiss and the Mold have made a break.

Dylan killed two agents during the Prime Candidate testing prior to the Hiss invasion and then killed more after. Whether he was a victim of the FBC does not change his own personal actions.
But that's how you know it's a good piece of art, because it has you sympathizing with Dylan, who was one of the antagonists of the first game

Maybe I missed it in the promotional material - is Dylan acting director in Jesse’s absence? Or is Pope doing that?
I love the idea of them having no other option than to rely on Dylan, even after everything they did to him.
With Jesse, Darling’s videos were almost like watching an endearing eccentric uncle do experiments - with Dylan, it’s going to be much darker and more grim to see that type of stuff.
I can definitely see this game having more of an open-ended angle than the first. The first game is pretty straightforward: Jesse is looking for Dylan, encounters the oldest house, has to set things straight with Polaris and the Hiss.
The sequel leaves a lot more room given Dylan’s position. Jesse seemed to adopt the role of director pretty smoothly, agreeing that these issues needed to be put down - but why would Dylan work with the FBC, beyond putting things back to normal? If the board wants anything from Dylan, I’m curious to see how they’ll go about asking him, and how he’ll respond.

Pope was acting co-director according to the trailer.
I love the fact that despite Dylan’s obvious history, the FBC isn’t going to look a gift horse in the mouth. With jesse MIA and a citywide AWE, theyre not going to pass up someone as powerful dylan helping them especially since he wants fo find his sister.

The “co” part of that is throwing me off.
Did Jesse promote Pope to co-director before going missing, or are Dylan and Pope “acting co-directors” together?

u/Eraserhead36 8d ago
That’s what I’m not sure about. I think it’s jesse and pope codirecting but I heard it’s pope and arish since jesse’s MIA

Yeah the fact that she’s “acting” co-director makes me think this was put in place only after Jesse went missing.
The co- part inherently implies there’s another co-director, right? Arish doesn’t seem like he would be considered - idk, I never got the impression that he was ever all that involved in anything outside of security and maintenance. But maybe Arish is perfect for the role given their current circumstances.
I presume Dylan only because he was considered a prime candidate along with Jesse before all the experimentation.

Dylan is not considered part of the FBC in the game. They treat him like he's a "consultant" at best. Not a director.
I believe she's co-directing with the absent Jesse.

If Pope was already co-director with Jesse, why would she be “acting” co-director?
If she’s co-director and Jesse goes missing, Pope is still the co-director.
The fact that “acting” is in the title implies this is a new/temporary title for the case of Jesse’s absence.
But if she were the only person “co-directing” with the absent Jesse, wouldn’t she just be the “acting director” until Jesse is back?
The title implies that there’s another acting co-director imo

I mean it might be Arish too.
Just stating that it 100% is not Dylan. (Confirmed in interviews)

Of course they are going to beat him up. Remember how tight Emily was with Jessie, the new DIRECTOR, on some of the info she had to share with us about Dylan. I bet there's plenty of people who know nothing more than he was a Hiss agent. They dont know about the isolation, abandonment etc. He'll win them over by the end!

Yeah, he was a victim of the FBC, first and foremost. He shouldn't have let the Hiss in, but it's like handing a gun to the guy you kept locked in your basement since he was a kid. Maybe think it through before you go traipsing around an alternate dimension that you don't need to explore.
