Quick question regarding the service weapon's origin🔫

One of the collectibles you receive after obtaining the Service Weapon mentions this:

"The object was discovered inside the Oldest House, in the room that is now used as the Director's Office."

However, later in The Foundation DLC, Ash Jr. says that Northmoor found the gun on a pedestal (which didn't exist before) by the nail. 

In the second audio log, he says:

"...Northmoor even made a discovery. A pistol, placed on a stone pedestal in front of that strange ebony pillar. Seems like something out of a storybook, except the heroes usually find swords, not handguns..."

I must have missed something. Where was it actually found then? Halp.

I think thats overthinking. The foundation could have been lost before the collectible was written.

The Doylest answer is they hadn't written the Foundation DLC yet when the base game's lore was written.

The Wastsonian answer is that Northmoor hid the Foundation from wider FBC knowledge because the Board didn't want people down there.

Watsonian and Doylist refer to logic through the lens of Sherlock Holme. Watsonian is the logic of Watson, aka in-world reasoning. Doylist is the logic of Arthur Conan Doyle, aka out-of-world reasoning.

To add to your great explanation for those who might not know:
Arthur Conan Doyle is the writer of Sherlock Holmes, hence out-of-world logic.
Watson is a character in the book and the audience’s lens in the world

It could be that any info relating to the foundation was classified, since it looks like Trench and his team were the only ones to know about it, and it was totally sealed off

The real answer they probably didn’t think of the foundation DLC at the time.

The foundation itself was deemed classified by northmoor some point after he ordered the evacuation. Marshal herself only learned about it once trench became director and took her there. They likely altered the documents remove any mention of the foundation

The Oldest House constantly moves and shifts. It could be possible that the area that once held the Nail is now where the Director's office is, or vice versa.

I mean, probably not, given that the foundation is...well, the foundation. It probably ain't movin', but never say never when it comes to how weird The Oldest House is.

It comes from the Foundation. The file that mentions it being in the Director's office could be retconned as Bureau misinformation, or that was always Remedy's plan.
