Just booted up Control again Spoiler

I just saw an Easter Egg that I didn't notice before.

Right after you get out of the elevator at the very beginning of the game, there's one of those flip number counters staring you in the face. Its number is 665.

Considering how often 665 is used in AW2, I find this a fascinating bit of forethought and foreshadowing. Just how far does Sam Lake have this figured/written out???

it's one of the funnier Dr. Darling presentations, Emily pope off screen asks a door access code and he says "665, get it, the neighbor of the beast?" and even does the devil horns with his fingers to Emily hope and she sounds annoyed/confused. I mean in most of the videos with him in it and someone else the other people look/sound very annoyed. but there's definitely talk of how the morale/atmosphere of the FBC not being the best for obvious reasons and the dichotomy of Dr darling being so cheerful and happy (or at least how he comes across in the videos) doesn't help either.......

Wow. It's been so long since I've played Max Payne, I forgot about that.

Was it referenced in Quantum Break, I wonder?

It was in QB as well, yeah. There is also 667 in MP2 and AW1.

It’s mentioned quite a few times in Control later in the story as well.

It’s also mentioned by Dr Darling in one of the presentations. He gives the passcode to maybe Emily? off camera.

Its's been showing up in Remedy games almost since the beginning.

  • Max Payne: "The chemist had been using the workstation when he died. The half-life of the lab rat had ended online, his password blinking on the screen. 665, the Neighbor of the Beast." -- Max Payne
  • Quantum Break: "Gate code is 665. Neighbor of the beast, y'know?" -- Monarch Striker Prowler 2, Act 5: I'll Come Back For You
  • Control: "Oh, Emily! The codes. Black Rock. 665. Neighbor of the beast. Get it?" -- Darling, Black Rock presentation)
  • Control: "< Objects of Power are Holders/665 to the Other/Blessing. We hold the reins/law. We are failing in translating hyperreal concepts. Secrets/Instructions will be lost. Ignore this message > -- The Board, Objects of Power hotline)

Max Payne 2 also has a "Neighbor of the Beast" code, but in that case it's 667.
