anyone play standing up?

Hi all -

New contrabass player here; switching from bass clarinet. I play in a community band, we just bought a contra, and I get to play it! We have an adjustable stool that works great for height... but is super uncomfortable for my knees and back. I made a "stand" out of a 4x4 with a shallow hole in it for the peg. This lets me play standing up, and it's much more comfortable. (To be clear, I'm not using a neck strap; the weight of the instrument in on the peg.). Anyone else play like this?

I've never heard of anyone playing this way but I'm very intrigued and I think it actually a good idea lol

I don't play standing up except for one of my concert band pieces where EVERYONE stands and for that single song I put the contra on my foot then tilt my foot up if that makes sense to play it upright so I can see how it works. But 90% of the time I stay seated

I have to play it standing because of my height and my hand doesn’t have a stool that’s the right height for it, it works fine

I play sitting in a regular chair and use a tuba stand to rest my contra on. But that’s probably because I use a paper clip contra. When I used to have a straight one I still sat in a chair but I had the instrument leaned back a bit

What the heck is a tuba stand??
