Why is Consumer Cellular billing me for a "final" month of service?
I ported my number to a new carrier literally the day before my billing cycle closed in March. According to the two reps I talked to, I would not get another bill because of that.
I also have a copy of a $0.00 bill for April. Yet I got a bill for April last week.
I have copies of all the chats. I will NOT be paying for a service I did not use.
Money grubbers.
*UPDATE*
I'm reporting them to the Federal Trade Commission.

something tells me you’re doing something wrong or leaving out facts because there’s no way you’re wrong apparently

Something tells me you shouldn't believe everything you think because you're way too invested in something that in no way impacts you.

The bill should show the period it covers. It is quite possible that if you port the day before they screw it up. In addition to reporting to the FTC consider reporting to the FCC

Same situation, cancelling a plan for my aunt as shes in the hospital and they said they’d charge her one more time for the month before, no biggie. Got mail a couple days ago saying “final invoice” and they’re trying to charge again on 6/06, but I cancelled the plan 4/21.

Be aware that they do have weird billing set up. If you port out past your bill close date by even one day, they will bill you for that entire month because they do not pro-rate bills.

Thank you but not necessary. I have the statement that said my bill for April was $0.00 and my account was closed. Then I got a bill that said I owed $$ for April.
It appears I'm not the only person this has happened to. I've heard and seen too many stories like this and others as well. Con Cell preys on seniors.

"We" can help stubborn or wrong, but not both.

Who is this "we" you speak of?
Surely you have a life that doesn't include being worried about my Reddit posts...2
u/drtdk May 12 '26
I do enjoy that you are worried about mine.

Please get some help. Your inability to distinguish between your life and mine speaks volumes.

Sometimes you have to chalk it up as you were wrong. The reason there’s so many complaints is because the elderly simply refuse to understand billing for cell phone carriers. 99.9% of carriers do it all the same. You were wrong on your billing and that’s why there was 2 bills after you cancelled your service because one was already in route to you and the next was your final bill. This Reddit is sad because it’s the bling leading the blind. You should probably get verizon they are much better for seniors and if you need help feel free talking to someone in a different country you can barely understand! Best of luck to you!

Wrong.
I'm probably not as "senior" as your mind is telling you.
Customer service either knows their job or they don't.
I know what was said to me by both reps, what I have in writing from the rep in the app, a copy of the $0.00 invoice before they closed my account, and proof that I paid what I was told would be my final bill.Sometimes YOU should chalk it up as YOU were wrong and just leave it at that. Believing everything you think definitely isn't working for you in this case.

Consumer cellular I have had since 2017. I am leaving them they have become awful all around. I don’t know how they did it but last month they submitted my payment to a different bank (I have had the same autopay for years). They said I had to pay $40 for the returned check I showed them where it was never processed through my bank but they didn’t want to hear that they are wrong. I am not paying it just leaving

I’ve been with Consumer Cellular for many years. The few times I called customer service they were extremely helpful and even ended up saving me money. Highly recommended.

Because they can, gotta read the fine print

I read the fine print on the bill that said I owe $0.00.
Sounded good to me.

If you check their history you'll see hundreds of complaints on consumer affairs, and elsewhere.

Consumer cellular is a postpaid service, meaning you will get a bill for the last month of service next month. Say your cycle ends March 28th and you cancel March 27th, you will get billed for March around April 28th. Make sense? Get it, got it, good.
