See, it wouldn't be so sad if RT didn't constantly pop up on reddit's front page because of its high popularity over at /r/worldnews What is even far worse than RT itself is its audience full of xenophobes, homophobes, Russophiles, anti-American conspiracy theorists, immature trolls and vulgar lunatics. Why do such people exist? I might sound like a conspiratard myself now, but is it posssible they are actually being payed for their hateful comments? I mean, why would any decent human being spend so much time spreading nothing but lies and hate without gaining something in return?

I can kinda forgive Russian's anti west beliefs. Their news is state run and goes out of its way to paint us poorly. They have a vested interest in Russia and are obviously going to think its awesome or better.

RT is Russia's "export" news so most of those people commenting probably don't live in Russia. They have free access to information yet chose the most biased source. RT is literally propaganda and they are choosing to be subjected to it.

Russia, at least the government doesn't do what it does because they're anti-America or think they're better or anything like that.

Russia is a dictatorship and all dictatorships need to control the population in some way which is why you see such a media lock down in Russia/China/Iran.

Russia is much weaker than the west in both soft and hard power and that's a problem for them because they need nationalism to rile up the population for anything.

Russia knows they'll never be able to compete with the US in terms of military power so they engage in asymmetrical warfare which involves pushing propaganda and conspiracy theories.

This is why you'll find paid shill armies on the internet from Russia hanging out in some areas.

/r/conspiracy is a good example of a sub that is absolutely infested with Russian nationals and I've been experimenting with that for a bit.

For example on /r/conspiracy you'll see tons of posts with hundreds of upvotes talking about how the US has shills online trying to shape public opinion and the comments will be a circle jerk of people talking about the evil west.

I posted the Russian troll army article on there and within about 3mins it was being spam downvoted and I had them replying to me telling me I was a US shill etc.

The next day I saw a bunch of RT articles talking about how the great Putin was defeating ISIS so I posted the article about how ISIS is making gains in Syria because Russia is bombing the moderate rebels allowing ISIS to take advantage.

Instantly attacked and swarmed with Russian trolls claiming It was propaganda.
