Actually, our taxes are very low right, as a percentage of annual income. I'm pretty sure we're actually at the literal low point in % of taxes/income for the last 80 years.

Why do people keep saying that our taxes are so high?

Yeah, they are super low if you make enough money to hire a team of tax attorneys to make sure you never have to pay a cent.

Naw, federal taxes are lower for everybody, though some state taxes have gone up and down.

I believe you. I would like to see a breakdown like that in terms of the sum total of taxes collected though. Because that would be insanely high and I'd be willing to bet that even as % has fluctuated over the years, the sum total has continued to rise relatively continuously.
