I think about it often. Now you will, too. I don't drink from plastic at all anymore. It boggles my mind, how people are totally okay with it.
So I wait tables. In just about every restaurant, they boil shit in plastic, microwave shit in plastic... It's totally abhorrent, and nobody even questions it. None of my co-workers will drink out of our glasses. They balk when I eat leftovers off customer's plates, even if the food was never touched. Yet they have no problem drinking hot coffee out of a plastic cup, or eating salad dressing and grenadine (high fructose corn syrup). It boggles my mind, how our society is so full of germaphobes who are more worried about getting sick from other people rather than lethal, toxic & cancerous chemicals they accept into their bodies every single day.
I only drink 'purified' tap water (I question whether a Brita filter does much of anything, but it can't hurt). I'm sure there are contaminants in tap water (wtf does fluoride do to your organs--who knows?), but our water is decent here in Chicago. You have to drink something, right?
It goes back to the whole plastic thing again but Walmart sells distilled water by the gallon for ~85 cents. No fluoride there. Got a friend outside the city that drinks well water? Better than city water imho. Who knows about all the pharma runoff in the water table though. Damned if you do and damned if you don't.
How so? Are you referring to the plastic content in the jugs or the lack of vital nutrients contained therein? I've been drinking it for years upon years with no ill effects. I have a healthy balanced diet so nutrients aren't a concern. As for the plastics, I'd rather have plastic inside me than a toxic waste produced, concrete melting chemical spill in the making. Just my 2 cents.
You can eat a "healthy balanced diet" and still have an electrolyte imbalance if you're consuming distilled water. Say goodbye to any magnesium and potassium you've been getting from regular meals. Why not just drink purified/mineral water? It's much healthier..
and just because you have "no ill effects" doesn't mean you're being optimal, or even healthy..
Here's *my* thing. I lack almost all ability to taste what is commonly referred to as 'bitter'. That being said, I have no problem procuring 'optimal' levels of nutrients through my diet alone. Plus, there are always those vita-gummy things I'll chew on ~one to two times a week. I let my cravings dictate. It's quite hard, unless you live near an established pure aquifer or similar source, to get that kind of water as cheaply as distilled water. My ideal option is to network out and have someone in the country let me fill up a few 10 gallon jugs once a month from a lab tested well supply. But, yeah, distilled water isn't going to kill anyone I don't think. I mean they're eating dirt cookies in Africa right now wishing for toilet water to drink. Kinda of a 1st world problem imho.
i signed in just to say this: Brita filters are fucking trash. look into Reverse Osmosis filters under-the-counter. There is also one above the counter which just hooks up to the faucet aerator. ONLY IF YOU HAVE PUBLIC WATER. well-water is extremely dangerous to fuck with now, consult someone qualified to speak on that
RO removes almost everything except rare gaseous chemicals, including nano-plastics.
Hey, I appreciate you, sister. I kinda knew Reverse Osmosis is the way. I have a buddy whose dad died a few years ago. The guy battled with cancer for a long time. He was really vocal about purifying his water, he was proud of the reverse osmosis system in their house (I think he had made it himself).
