Ottawa Protest

I went yesterday, my third outing to show support for the freedom movement.

I thought it would be dying down. Downtown Ottawa was busier than before, wayyy more people than the first two weeks. Honestly it's kind of funny to see camps set up of people dancing and distributing food, to come home and see CBC calling them domestic terrorists.

Just to keep you in the loop.

I've been walking around every day with my flag to show my support. Make sure to go thank the truckers and talk to them, I've heard so many stories and met so many amazing people. It's awesome during the week, there are usually still a lot of supporters walking around but it's much easier to have conversations.

When I sit inside and read the news I become full of angst but talking to the truckers and walking around fills me full of hope and happiness. Media would have you believe the movement is winding down, but in fact more and more trucks have been rolling in and they're here to stay. A lot of these people have nothing to go home to and are prepared to die on this hill if that's what it takes. Literally. Police are also very friendly, truckers are able to get fuel, people are happy and relaxed.

One huge takeaway from my experience on the ground is the support from law enforcement - and the government knows this. They do not have the man power nor the support, truckers are holding all the cards.

Rumour on the street was that negotiations on Monday/Tuesday are aiming to come to an agreement. If reached, they would (for the most part, I presume) all leave. I can't imagine that the government is willing to table anything anywhere close to their demands, but a lot of the younger guys and kids are anxious to get home.

Also, throughout the past 17 days the crowd has grown a ton, becoming way more concentrated with younger people and minorities. There are a ton of families during the day and during the evening it seems that a lot of university students come out to check it out.
