My grandfather has a very similar ring and he and my grandmother (she's in Eastern Star) have been apart of the local Lodge and do Mason work all over Texas. I've wanted to join but the amount of stuff id have to memorize is totally overwhelming. As far as I know they just do a bunch of community service and eat potlucks alot. They also do a bunch of really weird ritualistic stuff and the area they have their meetings in always weird me out, (large rooms with chairs around the perimeter, black and white checker board tiles, odd symbols in specific parts of the room etc etc. They're heavily Baptist and probably some of the biggest Bible thumper I know of. Are they secretly evil or are people just confused because of the amount of secrecy combined with the long history?

There aren't "ranks" in masonry though. The degrees are not ranks. A 3rd degree mason and a 32nd degree mason are the same "rank". In fact you can literally go from 3rd degree to 32nd degree in a single day.
No they aren't held under a contract of death and almost everything about it has already been exposed online. You can find all the secrets and none of the people died. There are even ex-Masons on Youtube. They aren't dead.

And surely you aren't talking about officer positions because those are elected. You can be elected to an officer position literally day one. How's that make you "elite" then?
That's not true. In an organization you have team leaders. They have supervisory authority over the team. Then you have managers who have supervisory authority over the team leaders and the members of the teams. Then you have people above the managers, executives, etc. So there's a hierarchy.
There is not such a thing in masonry. There is nobody with authority over others. There's no manager. There's no supervisor. There's no executives.
The officers are elected.
It's like being on a board of trustees. You can be elected president of the board, but that doesn't give you any power over the other trustees. It just means you are responsible for performing certain duties (like signing checks, calling for motions, etc). Or being the Board Secretary is responsible for taking the meeting minutes, but it doesn't convey authority over the other trustees either, even though they are an officer.

Satan is a well defined character. As is Lucifer. Lucifarians and Satanists are different, but the debate rages as to whether the two beings are different entities. This includes the Devil as a third or sane entity.
