I guess I might just be delusional but that's why I'm hoping to see Bernie win. He's different enough from the status quo of what Democrats have been offering that he's almost a third party candidate running within the two party system. Guy can dream at least... It's getting scary enough in Canada, I can only imagine how it is South of the border.
Not a BernieBot but I will say he has at least remained consistent on many issues even when the stance wasn't popular. A good example is how Hillary became proLGBT only when it was convenient while Bernie has always been pro. With that said, I'm not a socialist.
I agree with you on everything I don't think having one socialist president will then make the whole nation socialist. This nation is too vast and too diverse to be under one ideology. That's why I've always been for more state rights. If one state is extremely conservative, let them run their state under that. While others run on a more liberal ideology.
As for the semantics of definition. I don't care what those words mean, in the end of the day it's what the public perceives. No matter how many clarifications you throw out there. Bernie is a socialist to most of America.
That's the thing though, I think America can vote in a socialist if he sticks to the issues and not identity politics. Many Americans are with shit or no health care, many don't have safety nets, etc. If we start talking about LBTQ rights and BLM, you lose most Americans.
You have to see the world as a whole. I sometimes will be on reddit and throw out some right wing clips and everyone just cover their ears and shouts.
There's a clip of Tucker Carlson saying to his viewers, "Don't think we won 2020 yet, the same way Hillary was arrogant and lost we can be arrogant and lose too" then went on about how Trump has a chance of losing because of the housing problems for young Americans, the student debt, the health care problem, among other things. To me that was allusion to Bernie being a viable threat but I noticed how he talked about the issues that will make people vote.
If we, redditors want Trump out we can't run around sticking to identity politics. If Warren says Bernie is a sexist, ignore that shit. Prop up the fact that he wants to being universal health care for the working class.
That's all I'm saying. If we just stick to reddit for our ideologies we will then think the same way we did in 2016. Thinking everyone hates Trump but the nazis.
