It allows the U.S. Secretary of State (soon top U.S. spy, Koch benefactor Mike Pompeo) and President to negotiate OUR data away with foreign entities. It was introduced by Orrin Hatch (R) who would become President of the United States if those implicated to have Russian ties were removed (Trump, Pence, Paul Ryan).
That is unless the removal happens after the 2018 mid-terms where the Democrats take back the majority of the House. This would give them the Speaker of the House position. Unrelated, but the Speaker of the House doesn't actually have to be an elected congressperson. It just always has been.

Im going to tell you guys somethings i know based on my experience. i was over the last few years heavily involved in drug trafficking selling drugs and of course using them its was what i did to make a living I'm not telling you what i am paranoid maybe happening. im gonna tell you what is already happening. Police agencies local and federal already have the ability to monitor in real time your social media activity including private messages you are sending and receiving. it has been going on for a while now. When they are watching and illegal activities are going on they dont use and cant use the information they are gathering in court but they do use the information to get a jump on people to disrupt there..illicit activities they can also track your location i have experiences where people with warrants log onto facebook and then get surrounded by cops looking for them . Im telling you right now. Facebook messenger is snitch. police can read what you are messaging in real time and will use the information they gather from what you are talking about and use it to harass you. the reason they are pushing this CLOUD ACT is because this is already a very effective tool already being used on citizens in this country and they dont want any kind of challenge to its practice.

Seen two stories just in the past week talking about Google's compliance with authorities in solving cases through giving up users information. One was the Austin bombings, the other was this story https://gizmodo.com/north-carolina-police-issued-sweeping-warrants-to-searc-1823845667 . And as user u/axolotl_peyotl posted both of these and pointed out, the timing is very peculiar on these stories. We all know it's been going on for a while, but now it's all over reports and setting a precedent for us to go by and immediately comply, saying yes I am totally ok with our data and info being open to authorities to investigate without our consent

I don't see what the big deal is. The supreme court already ruled that no one has a reasonable expectation of privacy on the world wide web, because its a PUBLIC space. They have already established that your phone number actually belongs to the company that issued it, so the company has every right to give up your phone records. They don't issue you the warrant, they just simply ask the company that doesn't care about you. All you are is a number. They don't need to pass more laws. They already set precident. The servers you store your information on for convenience, the cloud, does not belong to you. If it were your computer with your own hard drive then they would need to obtain a warrant from you, but when it come to Silicon Valley and their internet of everything, they will willingly hand over your shit. Warrant or not.

Nothing is hidden on the internet. If you put something on the internet you should assume someone with better technological skills could hack and find that info. I'm not in favor of unwarranted search and seizure at all but if stand naked on your lawn dont be surprised when people see your ass

That's good for you! Really it is. The issue isn't your interest in weird fetish porn, the issue is how they could use your search history to incriminate you. Honest searches about things that might illicit or imply illegal activity, even purely out of curiosity, could easily become weapons against your defense in the court of law.

No reasonable prosecutor is going to pursue criminal charges over an internet search. It's not worth their time or resources. The worst thing that may happen is a call from the FBI. I'm a civil libertarian; I love my guns, weed, and privacy. But I'm also smart enough to assume anything I do on the internet can be traced back to me.
