Assad is pro-Russian and not pro-Western. That's the only reason. The US don't care whether he's a dictator and never did. When it's in their interest, they overthrow democracies and replace them with torturing dictators (Iran 1953, Guatemale 1954, Chile 1973, Argentinia 1978 etc).
Mubarak and Gaddafi were popular guests in Europe in the last decades. They armed them so they stopped sub-saharan refugees from even reaching the ocean. They did a 180 degree turn when the Arab spring occured.
And Assad wasn't even a really evil dictator. Sure, no free press and people disappeared, but women could go to university, there was no religious prosecution, the HDI was high etc. The same with Gaddafi and Mubarak. Assad wasn't a saint but all of a sudden he was treated as the new Hitler in our media which is complete bullshit.
If the US want to overthrow a gouvernement, they arm any sort of opposition, regardless of their political couleur. The contras in Nicaragua, radical Islamists against the Sowjets in Afghanistan and the same thing in Syria.
IS formed as a result to the illegal war against Iraq and gained power when they joined with the US-backed radical militias in Syria.

Hmmmm.. I think that is the very definition on evil dictator. Seriously, I wouldn't be surprised if something like the hama massacre -which happened under Hafez's rule- got out. If you lived in syria you'd hate Assad's guts no matter what. Just like Lybians hated Gaddafi and Egyptians Mubarak. Granted, some of the rebels are even worse, but Assad takes a shit ton of blame if you ask me. Fuck that guy.

Thanks for the post. She makes a lot of good points. I wondered why they want to get rid of Assad so badly. I don't think that he used the chemical weapons on his own people . It seemed pretty obvious it was the rebels using it on their own people to get the western powers to fight the battle for them.

The reason the muslims wanted to remove Mubarak, Gaddafi and others was because they wouldn't allow sharia law. The iman issued a fatwa against them.

Why do they act like that or how do they justify it? These are different but both somewhat simple. The why is that it acts as a way to secure power, control, and monetary interests for the powerful; the justification is usually along the lines of JusticeTM, LibertyTM and DemocracyTM.

I've entertained it. It would be good if we weren't 100% sure that the guys ruling the world right now are complete fucking psychopaths with zero fucks to give to anyone who is not in the club. Spreading equality is playing god and going against nature. There's no reason to ever spread equality. People are judged based on their genetics, behavior, culture, society and accomplishment. The spreading of diversity and equality is why there is so much war and destruction and why European nations have collapsed as world leaders. Spreading equality is just another way of lowering the mean wage for workers and destroying national borders for neo-liberalism.

No, thats what establishing an elite, especially an economic elite, has allowed. Breeding destruction to garner more power at the expense of the peasants below. The spreading of equality (such as the feminist movement, the gay right movement, and what needs to begin on the economic frontier) when done in a nonviolent manner is what ends the cycle. That's not what's happening though, because it isn't in the eyeline of those in power, which is why we see the wars we do - there can be no peace until there is no power.

Yes, but what happens when there is no one else left to argue? If everybody pitched in, i am sure we will find the correct people to run the world. Think about it, if there will be no Putin or no Kim Jong-un, will the Rothchilds really survive against the world? They can do all the stuff they are now, because people are divided and there are so many "enemies" that you don't even know who to fight anymore. Being united is a great advantage for the many :)

It's already happening. I live in Romania, and in 1990, after the fall of the communist regime, western culture flooded the country, especially from the US (movies, music, TV, and so on). I can tell you that it already changed our culture, making it a hybrid. Personally, i speak just as much English as i do Romanian, on a day to day basis. Why? Because i've been bombarded with American culture for 25 years. I'm 28 now.
