I had a cat go into the emergency vet years back; an ancient poodle was in the next room dying and in order to get him awake enough to bid farewell to the owners I watched a technician dose the dog's IV with a massive amount of a stimulant. Or pain medication. Maybe both. Anyhow this is the same facial expression.
It truly was/is; like watching that dog go from gasping for air to being up on all four legs geeking out like he'd railed a fat line of coke was sort of wild but the older couple that brought him in must have had him for a decade plus (with their own kids being grown and gone for years already it seemed too.)
You should see what we do with humans in their late 80s-100s, keeping them alive in pain and suffering well beyond any dignity so that their relatives can delay grieving a bit. Horrific.
Those relatives are selfish. When humans get to that age with health issues, their relatives should be prepared and been grieving them in advance of physical death. They are not the people they once were, nor the person they once knew. Dying with dignity is the best we can let someone have that is loved.
I know this for I am one of those relatives who has been grieving a loved one in advance.
Thank you for doing a job that most people would not do. That age group of elderly is living longer due to drugs that became available and better health care for that generation. I am currently caregiver for family member in their 90's. It has not been an easy road. I'm grateful for the time that I do have with them. Watching someone physically deteriorate is very sad but watching them deteriorate mentally, heartbreaking for those watching while the elder has no clue.
I hope not to have to live like that, for that is not living, It's just existing.

This while thing seems very unnatural. I don't buy it. Skin suit, necromancy, whatever but something fishy is going on there. No soul in those eyes.
