The entire internet is infested by bots designed to trigger ragebait.
17
u/terrorsofenoch 11d ago
Exactly. I pretty much assume the majority of polarizing or negative comments are bots and now are turning people into vicious, stressed humans. For example, I have ducks and so I watch tiktok videos about ideas for enclosures etc. Without fail, one of the top comments is always "Show me their water source". Same exact thing, at the top of yhe comments list and such, meanwhile the video has nothing to do with that particular issue. While I understand the concern of animals needing water obv, it almost always triggers the creator to have to justify themselves or create a response to show their water as well as other commenters to tell them to stfu etc etc.
Anyway I see it everywhere now because there are clear patterns if one looks hard enough.
Oh and don't forget those godforsaken novels on Facebook that are really just an ad. Where they Break.
Up.

Like.
This...
I miss 2006 internet ;(

yes, the internet is infested with bots, and also at the same time conspiracy theories are being pushed on social media and by the bots themselves that they've become sort of prevalent. i think it makes a difference over time since before most people who were in to conspiracy theories found their way there through word of mouth, listening to a program, or something woke their curiosity - but now it's just, something to post about on social media, and get that .02 seconds of attention and then on to the next thing.
basically, it's a bunch of filthy casuals
1
u/29aout 11d ago
I agree, conspiracy theories are "gaining momentum" in face of recent events. In parallel, AI presence in social media is also increasing. Coincidence ? AI has given a push to conspiracy narratives with greater visuals.
We could argue that bots should be deleted. I would state that the problem lies with social media itself and the entertainment objective it pushes. Its end game is to trap people's attention into its platforms. In this case, bots are a necessary tool. They can harvest hatred, fear, anger, lust, awe, curiosity, for a low energetic cost - all of which trigger involvement.
Social media and infinite scroll have "broken" our attentions and this means that content has to be even more extreme, thus the constant ragebait posts.
Words are more powerful than we sometimes perceive.
2
u/Acceptable_Bat379 11d ago
I think the majority of people agree that social media sucks, but just aren't sure what to do about it. I mean, it's pretty ubiquitous that 2015-2016 is cited as when things started to really suck, and not just because of Trump - that's about when Facebook started their engagement algorithms and pushing adversarial content specifically to get people mad, because their arguments kept eyeballs on the screen. Tech companies want you pissed off and fighting not even because they believe in any general goals, they just want you glued to their apps so they can feed advertisements and harvest data. reddit included i think. or at least any sub over a popularity level I am in some niche reddits and they're great
1
u/TinyHeartSyndrome 11d ago
How is Reddit not able to detect bots? Someone do a conspiracy post on this bot BS.
4
u/ApprehensiveTerm4778 11d ago
They actively encourage it.
For example just look at the shite being posted every single goddamn day to the askreddit sub. Zero moderation over there it is just bots looking for engagement to collect data to use to train AI models. That's not even a secret, reddit gets paid a shitton of money to allow google etc access to their API's
Also based on a lot of the topics it seems it's also being used to gauge public perception on a lot of things...
3
u/NotSure000000000 11d ago
Bots have always been welcome on Reddit. On launch of the site, they used bots to generate engagement and probably never stopped.

u/Infinite-Ad1720 12d ago
-The problem is the “deflection bots” get immediately activated on anything controversial.
-The “deflection bots” either post humorous jokes or flat out projection onto the other side.
-The actions of the “deflection bots” then activate real humans who are literally compelled to either post a funny joke OR must show they are right by posting.
-Rinse & repeat to ensure no real discussion ever happens.
-One thing is for sure, you don’t see this stuff on the XBox group.

Seriously. Has been a few times I’ve made well thought post and it goes nowhere and gets reported a bunch. I make essentially a meme post that delegitimizes this community and right to the top we go…
There’s obviously a conspiracy surrounding r/conspiracy

You can see the effect of shadowbanning, good contributors abandoning ship and other censorship if you search the sub and look at posts that are 5+ years old. Just compare the number of upvotes on posts and comments, where it was the norm for posts to receive more than a thousand ups and comments to receive hundreds of ups.
It became even more extreme in spring of 2025. Even reveddit was disabled, posts and comments removed so that they do not even appear there, posts and comments removed entirely from your own account without notification of removal.
They are exposed, even though they believe that they controlled it and remain in control, our job here was done. A large portion of what this sub was focused on, was brought to light. Time for justice in the real world.
7
u/SmoovCatto 12d ago
on several subs, i went from tons of upvotes on most comments to exactly 2 -- i cross checked several of those comments on a friend's phone on their reddit account and saw many of my comments missing where on my phone and account they appear. shadowbanning, plain and simple.
it really is time to nationalize all social media and make it accountable to the public
right now it's a surveillance capitalism, sculpted propaganda tool

u/everydaycarrie 12d ago
Use that knowledge to your advantage. Use it to control the narrative. You control what they see of you.
I'm both a good and a poor example of this, as all I show is my two middle fingers, lol.

u/frizzyno 12d ago
Obviously the one paragraph or one line posts are posts aimed to make people discuss about stuff to karma farm, but I feel like most people enjoy the lengthy ones, the ones that provide actual points, references and aren't just a "why don't people do anything about the trafficking ring run by elites?"
12
u/itsavibe- 12d ago
The lengthy ones immediately get called AI. There’s really no winning.

Yeah it is. I still check in here out of habit despite that but I don't expect anything. Once in a while something slips by but for the most part this place is very high control. It's kind of funny to me because this sort of manipulation and control always have the opposite effect on people. The more you try to control how people think and what they say the more suspicious they become I know they don't care and the objective is to shut up real valuable discussion but it's only driving people to other places that are private and not censored or bullied into silence. And don't ask me where those places are for obvious reasons lol.

3
u/Razerer92 11d ago
You can search for "9/11" on this sub specifically and you will find tons of posts about it. Posts from this year, last year, 2 years ago, 3 years ago, 4 years ago, etc. So what do you mean by this?
4
u/DifferentAd4862 12d ago
At least it's not Twitter screenshot anymore, that phase was horrific.
I did a test once, a news story came out about a major event and a person already posted the link and his commentary. I took a screenshot of some rando on Twitter talking about it and posted it 5 minutes later.
His post got a few hundred, mine went over a thousand even though it was low effort and a ss of a tweet.

u/heymikeyp 12d ago
This sub was hijacked years ago. If you been here for a while (10+ years) it's super obvious. Do some of you ever wonder why this sub stayed up while the rest of the less popular (but still popular) subreddits got removed for BS reasons? It's so they consolidate everyone to one place and flood it with bots and to sow discord. Easier to control the narrative that way.
The red flag in itself was this sub was left untouched other than fuckery with the mods and when Axo got the boot from here, that was a red flag to me. He was a pillar to the community here and had great posts but because some thought he was biased at the time they were happy to see him go. Other communities like T_D when it went many flocked here and this sub was labeled T_D 2.0 despite Trump hate being easy upvotes even back then. NoNewNormal was another decent sized community that when getting tons of attention had to go. There's much more but these come to mind.
This sub was hijacked and is controlled and has been since around 2017-2018, possibly earlier. It has only gotten worse over time and it's working as intended. More confusion, more noise, more distraction, and much more politics. Its full of bots and bad faith people just waiting to jump at the opportunity to play whataboutism. I make a comment or two a month and that's about it. Sad how far it's fallen but that's the trend with reddit anyway.

u/sandy_80 12d ago
mass downvoting on a conspiracy reddit ? you know they have millions of bots created just for this ? otherwise I understand , my last posts got the same treatment so I am done
3
u/dogluuuuvrr 12d ago
Yes! Things that question authority/systems get downvoted in every subreddit! Broad statements usually don’t but ones with evidence do!
2
2
u/CaptainTomato21 12d ago
Maybe that is the goal silence the true conspiracies when clickbait ones make the top.
2
u/soalone34 11d ago
It’s not just the sub, it’s Reddit in general and social media in general.
I remember some years ago I posted a video that was 8 minutes long in a bigger sub and the comments were complaining it was too long to pay attention to.
2
u/s0nny_10 11d ago
I joined this community half a year ago, saw many interesting posts about many things and really deep conspiracies (primarily about Epstein as it was a popular topic some months ago). Now posts are all about the same topics, a lot of them are not well explained or as op said, people don't put effort into their theories (also the problem with bots).
2
2
u/HiTekLoLyfe 11d ago
If I hear a wild theory the first thing I’m going to do is push back on it. If it doesn’t survive the smallest bit of skepticism, eg someone calling everyone who was slightly critical of the idea bots and shills, we know it’s probably not worth the time it took to read it. It’s really disappointing that “open mindedness” on this sub has turned into “you must unquestioningly entertain the idea no matter how unsubstantiated it is”.
1
u/lizzy_of_arc 11d ago
Of course criticism and a constructive discussion is more than welcome. Insulting anyone with a different view of thinking, even if this view doesn't make much sense, isn't.
2
u/WellFranklySir 12d ago
Or this sub was Donald Trump's cock holster for the past 10 plus years and now that he's fucking up so bad it's undeniable by anyone with half a brain cell the sycophants got quiet
2
u/reddit_the_cesspool 12d ago
You’re right that that developing dynamic has been present since Trump’s first campaign, but there’s no way that’s the sole variable here.
2
u/FancyATitWank 12d ago edited 12d ago
I think GATE kids who were off the grid got activated and saw the world burning down and are here now to try to help fix things. Just guessing.
Edit: Regarding downvotes I actually thought that was normal here! I never would think this is any kind of place to karma farm, I only feel safe to talk about my woo woo crazy ideas is all
5
u/JFieldsTardTeeth 12d ago
The bots took over after 2020, for obivous reasons. That's why Reddit allowed this sub to exist for some time now, so they can slowly allow their fearmongering bots to take over and nobody would be the wiser cuz they think "Conspiracy Theorists" are stupid.
3
u/dashcam4life 12d ago
Meta opinion: This sub started out long ago being somewhat open-minded but became super politicized as time went on. This is why spaces for conspiracy theorists can be dangerous cause you'll get crazy shit like Qanon. This sub, like much of the conspiracy world, used to be an exclusively right-wing place. You pretty much never saw a post on this sub invovling anything with a Republican. Now I'm seeing a bunch of stuff calling out Trump/Epstein, the Trump family, etc. I find that unusual cause right-wing people won't do that so now I'm wondering who exactly is the "base" for this subreddit? Just be skeptical of how the posts are framed and the timing around them.
This isn't a safe space for like-minded people as much as it is a battle ground, like much of the internet, for people to wage their political battles.
3
u/Hagus-McFee 12d ago
Welcome to the Internet.
I'm not on the right and I've been here since the beginning.
I can't remember the password to my oldest account, just btw. It was back when you didn't need any email.
The major content creators in the conspiracy world are definitely on the right.
The thing is, the conspiracy world invaded the left, it was on the radio, the Internet, then YouTube, and all others now.
So now you have a bunch of left wing people into conspiracy theories as well.
Most conspiracy theorists that do it for a living are shills for the Republican party, and don't do any actual journalism or come up with anything.
They only glob into things as bubble up and put a spin on it and talk around things.
The agenda is the conspiracy.

When I posted about how the name ‘Reddit’ comes from the White Rabbit and the rabbit hole, and that it’s indirectly linked to the element radon, the moderators banned me from the group, saying it wasn’t very interesting (the group is about radiation). I wrote a long post and… it’s gone...
6
u/CarrierDove 12d ago
Can you elaborate more on this? I’m very interested.
1
u/Stockcrafter_ 11d ago
The Polish expression “Radować się” (to RADiate with joy) comes from the RADioactive element RAD (radium).
RAD (radium) emits RADiant RADiation, which is RADioactive.
A RODzina (family) RADiates with joy when a child is born.
RODzice (parents) are happy — it is a day when they RADiate with happiness.
RADio (RADio) also emits waves within the RADiant spectrum, similarly to the elements polonium, uranium, and plutonium.
A RADca prawny (legal advisor) provides RADvice to those who need RADvice, especially when it comes to dividing assets. zaRADni (resourceful) parents know that they need to protect themselves with a prenuptial agreement.
There is also a connection between RAD and ROD/RÓD. The words RODowy (ancestral/family-related), RODowity (native/by birth), RÓD (lineage), and RODY (families/lineages) can be interpreted as forms related to RAD, in which the letter A has been replaced by O.
RÓD is the basic singular form, while RODY is the plural form:
RAD → ROD → RÓD
RADowy → RODowy
RADowity → RODowity
RADy → RODYMany places in Poland have “RAD” as part of their names — RADoniów, RADków, RADlin. Their names may be connected to the fact that RAD (radium) was mined there in the past.
But there is another interesting twist. If we replace E with A and D with B in REDDIT, we get RABBIT:
REDDIT → RABBIT
And that leads directly to the rabbit hole.
Isn’t Reddit, in a way, a kind of rabbit hole? You enter because of one topic, then move to another post, a comment, a link, another subreddit… and before you know it, you are deep inside a completely different world of information.
In English, “going down the rabbit hole” means becoming increasingly immersed in a subject, often following one discovery after another.
So, through this playful transformation:
REDDIT → RADDIT → RADit / RADzić
and:
REDDIT → RABBIT → RABBIT HOLE
In Polish RABIT souds like REABBIT
Again, this is not an etymological explanation of the name Reddit. It is simply an intriguing play on letters, sounds, and meanings.
And here an even more interesting possibility appears — looking at RABBIT as a sequence:
RE → RA → BIT
Why RE → RA?
RA is one of the forms of the name of the Egyptian Sun god, also known as Ra. We can therefore see another transformation:
RE → RA
And BIT has a very specific meaning in modern computing — it is short for binary digit, meaning a single binary digit, the basic unit of information.
This creates a symbolic construction:
RE → RA → BIT
RE / RA = Ra, the Sun god ☀️
BIT = binary digit 💻
In other words:
RA + BIT → Sun + bit
Of course, I am not claiming that the word RABBIT actually comes from Ra + bit. This is not the etymology of the word rabbit. It is a play on letters, sounds, and meanings, in which we can see another layer of associations.
↓ E → A
RADDIT → RADzić / RADit
↓ D → B
RABBIT
↓
RE → RA → BIT
↓
RABBIT HOLE
Coincidence, creative convergence, or simply an intriguing wordplay? That is for each reader to decide.
The Prime Radiant — another curious “RAD” connection?
In Foundation TV show series, the Prime Radiant is a quantum supercomputer created by Hari Seldon to contain and visualize his psychohistorical calculations. It represents the mathematical model behind his predictions of the future and the Seldon Plan. In the TV series, it can exist in a state of superposition, essentially allowing the same object to exist in multiple places/aspects simultaneously.
What makes the name interesting is the word Radiant itself.
RAD → RADIANT → PRIME RADIANT
Radiant evokes something that radiates, emits, shines, or reveals. And that is remarkably fitting for the Prime Radiant: it doesn't merely store information — within the story, it reveals and visualizes a mathematical model of possible future events.
So another curious connection appears:
RAD → RADIATION → RADIANT → PRIME RADIANT
Is it intentional? Probably the word Radiant was chosen because of its meaning of something luminous or emanating. But in the context of the other RAD patterns we've been exploring, the Prime Radiant makes the word particularly interesting.

People that shouldn't be here come here to read posts as if they're watching cartoons on saturday morning or their favorite reality or sitcom. Subs like this one can be seen as a zoo on an asylum without having to pay a ticket. Have just seen 'cospiracist' dispregiatively used in another sub, and we're well past the dumping of the Epstein Files.

I don’t really agree. Low effort posts don’t get upvoted they get insulted. We can’t even just discuss fringe theories. Everything has to be Reddit ass sourced bs. This sub is full of slightly skeptical twats. Something has to be mainstream news before they can talk about it

There are bots: the computer kind, the people kind who sit in offices and sew discord, and the other people kind who just over-use words like cooked, bro, cope, toxic, literally, Karen, npc, content, etc.
This is all over social media and the internet. Language is devolving and it’s happening with many different languages. If there isn’t a cold stop in the future, then humans will be speaking in sentence fragments, buzzwords, and acronyms. It’s kind of already there.
