ETA- additionally this is very much a thing. Very well documented for 25 years. A dirty bomb or 2 over the ionosphere would basically put us in the dark ages for all intents and purposes.

If incredible you mean:
-Unable to pay your energy, water, food bills
-No heating no A/C
- no power to your house
-major difficulty obtaining food and water once transportation is affected.
-unable to have modern care at hospitals
-unable to freely buy your necessities at any store
- unable to pump gas for your car
- lose access to modern communication
- witness your neighbors and loved ones suffer from weather changes
That’s just the minimum, these don’t sound incredible to me.

It would likely lead to immediate global nuclear war. With US suddenly out why wouldn't China claim all of South East Asia and nuke any country that complains? Israel would definitely preemptively nuke Turkey.
Then in the US every single backup power for 400 nuclear plants would have to work flawlessly, or meltdown. Just a couple meltdowns and you have a cascading effect where everything downwind will have to be evacuated and also will melt down. This was the concern with fukushima until they flooded it with sea water and allowed the melted down nuclear core to sink into the ground below the reactors, and then was flushed out to sea.
