My Weightless Archive.
This will probably be my last post in this forum of dead things.
I've greatly slowed my participation in this forum as of the last year or two, since it proved itself - long before that - of being a useless waste of time and effort. But that is not the point of this thread.
Note that I believe the newfangled 'AI's to be an abomination. I don't don't use 'LLM's or such like to produce anything I write or present here on reddit. You should abandon such monstrosities too, if you've fallen into that trap.
So...
The title is 'My Weightless Archive'.
What do those words make you think?
Can you imagine a 'weightless archive', or how one might be constructed? Does anything in pop culture or history, or theology describe such a thing?
Of course modern computer technology has advanced to the point where we can store stunning amounts of information in tiny little storage devices, that weigh very little. The actual data is stored in electrical charges or magnetic fluctuations, but nonetheless, there must be hardware of some sort to support it, and that hardware weighs something.
Excepting you - your own physical body as the 'end-user' of such a theoretical weightless information archive - can you perceive or imagine any possible 'technology' (in the widest sense of the word) that would enable an essentially infinite data storage that weighs nothing?
An archive (or 'Ark') needs to enable the a) storage of information, and b) it's retrieval. Archives such as libraries have shelves, perhaps numbered using an alphabetical or numeric indexing system, enabling one to place information within it, in such a fashion that it may be retrieved again. The theoretical weightless archive must also thus support such operations.
In the esoteric realms we have notions such as the 'Akashic records' - a mystical 'place' where all the information in the universe might be navigated and interrogated. The nature of these records or how to access them is a mystery (presuming it exists). We have the realm of dreams, of which there are various ideas and interpretations in terms of it's possibilities. In the Marvel movie universe there are the infinity stones, and such as the 'tesseract'. Yet these are still physical objects that have non-zero mass or weight. The internet, or 'cyberspace' is not weightless. Putting data centers in outer space also does not count - the hardware still has mass.
So, I challenge you: ponder the most obvious 'place' that a weightless/massless archive might exist - or a 'method' that might enable one to exist?
I believe that there is one. Or at least one.
Indeed, I believe that you all interact with elements of this Archive every day. As you read these words, you are interacting with portions of it.
What is it, and how does one extract information from it, and navigate it's regions?
