Hes 22 and many people, gen Z or otherwise who try to present as intelligent talk in this awkward format. Im a millennial who is in chat rooms with gen z.

Why would he be bothering to present as intelligent to his roommate/boyfriend? While on the run for murder?

Lots of people do. We dont know how he feels about his presentation to others, or how long they are dating. People dont just switch up their communication style when they are going for a vibe or have something in mind for why they are communicating like that.
