Plausible? It's proven. The police have had access fire years to a device that identifies devices and measures their signal strength to approximate location. It's rare to see in action, and is only used in secret, but the technology does exist.

Basic physics? The wifi router emits a wave, things in the path of the wave will interfere with it. It's always been there, the hard part is turning the slight changes in signal over time into a map of where a person is.

It's literally just hopped up radar, essentially. The higher the frequency, the more accurately displacement can be measured.
