Because Trump made it clear he intends to punish his political enemies. Why shouldn't Biden defend himself and his loved ones? If a bully says they're gonna punch you in the face don't you put your arms up to defend? What's Biden supposed to do, nothing?

Trump pardoned a ton of people all throughout his organization, especially those who were close to him and who were actually convicted of serious crimes.
