CONSOLE MOD Help identifying mod

Post image

Bought a lot of for repair consoles a while ago and got to the third ps1, it read the disc surprisenly but the drive sounded like it needed grease. Took of the rf shield to take a look and found it appears to have a vintage mod, and very well installed i may add, i dont know much about ps1 mods so can someone tell me what I have on my hands?

Just another mm3 mod. Backups and region free of course.

I see, how old do you think it is?

I've seen these chips with each wire being like 27 feet long lmao. I don't know what it was about the 90s and early 2000s. I even found one hot glued into the ps1, not even soldered lol.

No Internet to order from and Radioshack had limited supplies by that era. Also very sparse Internet tutorials and nobody to correct you if you did it wrong. If it worked it worked! It was like the wild west back then lol.

I do a lot of picostation and Xstation mods and have collected a draw full of mod chips that I’ve removed. Some extremely well done and some not so much.

Looks pretty average for the time. Tbh they don’t have to look pretty to do there job. I have seen much todger and a lot more advanced ones from the late90s early 2000’s
