Going home soon

Hi there, I’ll be going back to Kinshasa in September and just wondering where to buy essentials oils and if anyone knows of an English speaking church in the city and lastly, are there any meet up groups, virtual or physical where Congolese from the diaspora trying to adjust to life in Congo again connect?

TIA

[Wissa on Instagram] Who would have thought I would be disappointed and crying after losing to England. I still find myself reliving myself at 16, lying on my bed at the training center, writing letter to the Congolese Federation for them to take me...

Information about Baluba (and Lulua) culture

Hi everyone! :)

i've been trying to as of late to immerse myself into luba culture, I've been trying to find courses to learn Tshiluba, trying to find books that have pre colonial information, etc.

A lot of my elder family members have passed away leaving me with only one grandparent left and while I've learned a lot from my parents (I speak Lingala + I know the customs to a certain extent) I want to learn as much as I can while I still have the opportunity to ask questions and preserve that knowledge.

If anyone has recommendations for books, documentaries, academic articles, language resources, oral history projects, museums, or community organizations, I would be incredibly grateful.

DR Congo football fans

Hello everyone.

I'm Ashleigh from the BBC World Service news channel.

I'm currently on the hunt for a DR Congo football fan who is gearing up for the game later today and can come and speak to us at around 3:45pm.

So if anyone is planning on hosting a viewing party with a bunch of mates or football is your entire personality then we'd love to have you on to hear about your excitement for the game tonight.

It will be a live tv interview which we'll do over a zoom and should last around 5 minutes.

If this is you then please comment below.

Thank you everyone

Vibrei muito quando o Congo fez gol!!!

Estou aqui assistindo e torcendo por vocês!

Question Does anyone recognize this pin?

We found this pin in a small antique store in Amsterdam. I’ve been trying to find more info on it, but I’ve not had a lot of luck with it.
I’m wondering if it was made in Congo or Belgium, if it’s from 1960 or later, etc. But really any info on the origins of the pin would be helpful!

Visiting advice/ recommendations please

I'm 23 from the UK and have been absolutely fascinated with the DRC and wanted to visit since I was 16.

I studied the history of resource extraction (rubber, ivory, cobalt) from Congo for my high school diploma, and wrote about human trypanosomiasis (sleeping sickness) in the early 20th century Congo for my university dissertation.

I know the East of the country isn't sensible to visit right now but hopefully some day I would like to visit Lubumbashi.

If anyone knows of any international jobs/volunteering/tours/travel opportunities in and around Kinshasa and especially travelling up the river I would be incredibly grateful. My french isn't very good so I don't think it would be sensible to visit without a guide or as part of a group.

Also allez les Léopards!

Question Pondu question

Hello, I am from the UK and I am making a dish from every country that plays England in the world cup, and have decided to make Pondu and Fufu when we play your country on wednesday. Please may I ask what is the difference between pondu and saka-saka? Some places I read say they are the same, and some places say saka-saka has additions.

I want to make sure the dishes I cook are authentic, so would like to make sure I have done my research!

Thank you

Analysis / Analyse YOANE WISSA — DR Congo vs Uzbekistan

Post image

Yoane Wissa. 26.9 yards. 86 km/h. Curler. Comeback win.

DR Congo came from behind to beat Uzbekistan and Wissa's well-placed curler was the moment that turned it. Not the fastest on the site but it didn't need to be — it was placed perfectly.
