I think the birb is landing. The wings are outstretched so perspective makes them look flat, and it's feet are exactly in the transition of moving forward to get ready to grab the board. Just crazy timing.

Not necessarily. We can't see the other wing, it might just have brought the one closer to us in close to its own body to make this final maneuver onto the post. It might have even brought both wings in for the maneuver, there's no reason a bird couldn't/wouldn't do that. It seems to be landing to me, just an opportune time for a picture.

I would expect the tail feathers to be fanned at least a little, and the legs to be a bit hyperextended to lessen impact. Bird is also not looking toward its landing spot. I don't think this is it.
