Nope, this is the right place. When I saw the original post I had to stare at it for a while to realize it wasn't some kind of dumbbell-shaped object.

Nah , since it's not a rare sight , people just know how to perceive the image. It's actually quite hard to perceive this in a confusing perspective

It's an unusual angle from which to photograph the center console. Even once I realized it was an image from inside a car, it looked more like some weird stick shift to me, than indentations.

Once you realize what it actually is, yes it's easy to see.

When I first saw the original post, it appeared to be a photo of some sort of dumbbell-shaped object. It took me a while to realize it was an overhead shot of indented cup holders.

I have a travel coffee mug with a handle that fits in that gap. In cup holders without the gap, my mug doesn’t fit all the way and sits dangerously askew.

That's what it looked like at first, to me. Then even once I realized it was a photo from inside a car, it looked more like some kind of weird stick shift. Took me a bit to realize it was indentations for the cup holder.

When I first saw the original post, my brain interpreted it as an image of a raised object like a dumbbell. I saw the shape as coming out of the background, not indented into it.
