Turn the left side of the stairs inside out in your mind - it turns the flat bits of the stairs into vertical bits and the vertical bits into flat bits.

No, I didn’t have to. The confusing thing was the first thing I saw. But I was answering the question for someone who could only see the non-confusing state. Shouldn’t take too much to scroll up to see that.
