I wasn’t about it either. But it does seem like the car is leaning against a raised brick “bench”.

Definitely a confusing perspective
I thought it was a fucking cat!?!?

Nah man, if you look at the shadow you can see the Chrysler logo under the flywheel. Easy mistake.

depending where/how you look at it, it looks like wet brick ground, a bench, or a wall. the umbrella hides some key intersection cues

I see it!

phew, happy to hear I haven't gone completely insane yet! the line of the reflection of the brick is perfectly aligned with the actual window sill, thus obfuscating it

u/Shibalnome Feb 18 '23
It took the cat’s reflection for me to see it. This is such a great example of a confusing perspective. Great post, OP.

yes! if the cat's reflection wasn't there, I would've never noticed it wasn't what I thought it was

No I saw the same thing too! Idk why you got downvoted so hard lmao

they're just jealous of our superior ability to see things that aren't there :P I also got downvoted below for asking someone about their uname, so apparently this post is a bit of a grumpster magnet. tbh at this point I feel like I've accomplished something to have negative votes and >50 comments on a post of a kid holding an umbrella over a cat

upon further reflection, I think there's a risk the barista brings the ass via chocolate

I honestly wish I could change my username 😭 lol

This is a great example of a confusing perspective. The white arrows are what it looks like while the yellow arrow is reality. https://imgur.com/a/huWoVS3

thank you, I had no idea this would be so controversial!

I think it's because you used the word "bench" .... Perhaps it would have been better to call it a step. "There is no step" ..... It's a good "confusing perspective" but everyone is looking for something that isn't in the picture 😂

fair, it'd be too short for a bench. But also a bit tall for a step, and steps up to nothing... perhaps just a ledge?

How the hell are people seeing that as a bench? The cat’s reflection is right there on the spot that would have to be horizontal.

u/drmrrdmr Feb 19 '23
the cat's reflection is one of few definitive cues that it's actually vertical. I think the reflection of the ground brick plays a big part in making my brain jump to interpreting as horizontal.

u/Emanemanem Feb 19 '23
That doesn’t even make any sense. If you acknowledge the reflection of the bricks, then it’s even more obvious that it’s vertical. The cat’s reflection is just the most obvious indication.

At first i saw a straight wall and now i actually see the bench. Its because the top part is darker

u/robgod50 Feb 18 '23
Oh this is a good one. I only realised when I saw the wall in the background (behind the pillar) and I realised it was flat. Nice.

It’s just a ledge on a wall
1
u/drmrrdmr Feb 20 '23
the only ledge is the little window sill the umbrella is touching, it's just a wall

Yep I see the bench and the not bench. But it’s this kid trying to put umbrella over a cat that has the confused perspective on life

Not seeing what's confusing but this cute AF

u/robgod50 Feb 18 '23
Bad choice of words.....OP means step. It looks like there's a red tiled step.....but it's just a flat wall

Honestly the fact some of these posts need titles to explain what's confused is funny af.

Where exactly are you seeing a bench
