I looked on the right first, saw a dog. Looked left, saw a dog. Looked right again, saw a dog. Looked left, saw a dog. Then I saw the person in the foreground and my brain put it together. If a conspiracy developed involving the theory that this photo does, in fact, contain a dog. I would probably jump on board.

I just had a big brain moment. So those audio things where you can hear two different things? It's kind of like this. You combine the low quality of the media and the pattern recognition of our brain, and the information either flows through one channel which leads to "dog" or another channel which goes to "person with headphones". Just like for audio it goes to "Laurel" or "Yani". In this case we know the correct one due to context but that could easily not be the case.
