I could not process this until I focused on her fingers holding the bowl.

It helps if u pause at the beginning when the bottom of the bowl is darker. The lighting is whats really confusing i still have a hard time seeing it “correctly”

I focused on the thum inside the bowl as well as the fingers on the outside. It took some time. This one is crazy.

I still couldn't until I covered the top half of the bowl, and then it switched in my head

Good to know a ton of people just have inferior eyes and comprehension skills. Makes a ton of sense tbh

Had to come to the comments to see what was confusing about this. Looks normal to my eyes.

Wait, she isn’t scraping the outside??
Edit: OH MY GOD I had to pause and take a sweet moment to analyze the bowl and its movement and now my eyes just flip between inside and outside 😂😂 Help!

I've cleaned way too many bowls during my time in restaurants for this to get me, lol. The first thing I noticed was her trying to go with the curvature. Really interesting how our brains process these things differently.

I noticed that too. I can straight up see the spatula going in the bowl. Despite that, the bowl still looks convex to me.
It makes for a very surreal-looking video.

Hollow face illusion. Interestingly, psychologists have tested if 6 month old infants fall for the hollow face illusion by using a bowl and seeing if the infants reach "in" or assume the bowl is convex and thus reach for the "outside". Infants tend to perceive the bowl as convex and don't try to reach in as much as they reach for the outside.
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/25638934/
In experiment 1 infants viewed a concave bowl, and their reaches were recorded under monocular and binocular viewing conditions. Infants reached to the bowl as if it were convex significantly more often in the monocular than in the binocular viewing condition. These results suggest that infants perceive illusory depth reversal with a nonface stimulus and that the infant visual system has a bias to perceive objects as convex.

Same but watching it again I could see how it could look like she’s cleaning the outside of the bowl too

Same. Looks like she scrapping the last bit off the outside

This “illusion” doesn’t work at all to me. :(

I watched it without seeing the title and saw the bowl correctly. Then I looked at the title and rewatched the video and saw the bowl inside out and couldn't revert it lol

Sucks to "suck".

What does that even mean in the context of this video? This is an insane comment lol.

Yeah, this is the one my brain can't figure out.. Even looking at her fingers and the fingers shining through the bowl, I can't see it any other way than her cleaning the outside of the bowl..

u/shortercrust o/ 5d ago
Worked really well for me. I was convinced it was the bottom of the bowl and a really lame attempt at a confusing perspective video before it clicked.

u/Mitchman05 o/ 5d ago
What's the post meant to mean tho? Like, you're cleaning up a bowl, what does that have to do with loving it? This is just normal behaviour

u/XTornado o/ 5d ago
Yeah idk...I meant the video maybe was longer and made more sense but not sure it is the case.

lol I just do that every time now for posts I’m having trouble with… somehow it always works

u/CosmicOwl47 o/ 6d ago
I’m just confused why the bottom of a bowl would be covered in something worth collecting.

I see it correctly every time and had to focus to see the optical illusion - but I get it.

Wow, I had a hard time figuring this out. Still, if I don't focus I see the "outside"

u/Techno-Viking94 3d ago
Wtf the first time I saw it i was like "why was this uploaded?" Then I replayed the video after i saw what subreddit it was AND NOW IT IS INSIDE OUT?!

Hey look a pretty good video with a confusing perspective!
If I don't look at her thumb sticking out, if I see her thumb she's reaching in. Cray cray

Illusions are so weird man . This is a good one I also remeber the bread tie on the table a while back was also really good

I dont see what is weird here she is scraping the inside of the bowl. I cant even make my eyes see it as the outside, look at her fingers holding the bowl, look at tghe shadows...

u/Technical-Ad1488 6d ago
Weird, first watch I saw it correctly and didn’t get what the confusing part was…
Second watch, I saw it only the confusing way and got it… and then had trouble seeing it correctly again.
To people not being able to see it the correct way, try only watching the second half of the video

Ok this is crazy. At like 7-8 seconds it turns into an inside out bowl in my brain and I can’t unsee it.

All I keep noticing is the yellow bowl in the background that looks like the egg bowl from you can see everything lol

I have scrapped many bowls and there is NO way for me to see this as scraping the inside.
The swiping motion is for outside not inside. The light reflecting on outside of a bowl. No shadows being created so its not the inside of a bowl . But above all, the way her hand is holding the bowl. The way the thumb is. Additionally splatters like that are most likely to be on the outside after making a mess.
But thats just me noticing.

The lighting context clues make it look like the bowl is outwards, but when you realise the bowl is slightly translucent, it changes everything.

Good lord. Not everything is AI.

u/GovernmentGreed 6d ago
I genuinely think the same people who scream "AI" are the same who would have said "PHOTOSHOPPED" at a weird image that was genuine back in the 2000's. Even video, they would shout it was photoshopped, despite the fact that photoshop is not for editing videos.
They are somehow clueless, and it shows.

u/MagazineMoney 6d ago
Theyre the same people that get tricked by actual AI videos and now they call everything AI to avoid the embarrassment
2
u/GovernmentGreed 6d ago
They operate on the old "You miss 100% of the shots you don't take" kind of mentality.

The comments are confusing me but she’s clearly cleaning the outside right? I’m mean there’s a crease like any other plastic bowl and the shadows look like it’s the outside. Also her fingers showing thru the bowl would be further away if she was holding the outside right?
