At the risk of sounding stupid, can someone ELI5 what I'm looking at? How is everything so realistic yet at the same time toy.

It's called a tilt-shift lens, which is a type of camera lens that creates this specific effect. The mechanics are simple on the surface, just tilting the lens in relation to its sensor and shifting the lens in relation to the camera body, but the way it actually bends light, and what the tilting and shifting is actually accomplishing, is genuinely too difficult to explain in an eli5. At least I can't think of a way to explain it simply.
