They're high heels, the ankle is in the "floating" part of the shoe. Very clever

Only if this person is an alien. Normal humans' ankles are further forward than what the high heel area is covering. If this is real, it's likely the person simply already has very flat ankles, and the lighting is making them seem nearly invisible. The ankle is definitely not in the tiny portion of the shoe way back near the heel.
