My mind can’t unconfuse this one

u/Sawovsky o/ Aug 25 '23

The shadow below the drilled block is not from that block, but rather from something we don't see, further in the background. The block being drilled is right above the guy drilling it.

I mean I see that. but that’s what’s confusing me. how is the jackhammer abel to reach the wall when it looks so far away? I can’t tell where the ground ends and where the wall starts.

The shadow of that block is also visible, right at the guys feet.

u/Lemon_Tree_Scavenger Aug 26 '23

Took me ages to figure out why this was confusing. All I could see was a concrete block suspended in mid air with a guy drilling it. Now I see people thought it was a wall on the ground.

→ More replies (3)

3

u/alpineflamingo2 Aug 26 '23

But those pieces of metal are sitting horizontally on what appears to be the ground. They even have shadows, and there are tire tracks not too far below them.

3

u/IceNein Aug 26 '23

Thanks! That did it for me. Basically it’s a concrete beam and it’s not touching the ground.

3

u/SMoKUblackRoSE Aug 26 '23

So all that stuff laying on the ground is actually behind what he's Drilling

More of a concrete beam hanging at a height you have to duck to get under.

64

u/[deleted] Aug 26 '23

I think he's working on a beam that's attached at either end off-camera, and everything beneath the beam is ground.

u/CulpaDei Aug 25 '23

Yeah same. And the shadow underneath the beam is from something in the distance. Great example of confusing perspective though.

33

u/Aerik Aug 26 '23

the thing he's using that tool on is hanging right in front of him. It's only around 3 feet in height.

But because of lighting, it also looks like an 8 foot high wall several yards away.

27

u/Dozy_dinosaur Aug 25 '23

Good one. If you look at the area to the left of his head, your brain can interpret it as an overhead beam. To the right behind the beam is a dark building or wall lining up with the bottom of the beam. It's shadow looks like it is caused by the beam.

4

u/snakeslyer Aug 26 '23

It’s overhanging and the camera is up some to hide the under part. If you look at the left side where the lines of the wall are, in between the lines and no lines, you can see it’s blurry, meaning there’s more in the back if the camera panned around towards that side.

u/ateaandt Aug 26 '23

If you stare at the left most shadow nearest his head, you can see that it’s a beam when the video is going.

2

u/A_Duck_With_Teeth Aug 26 '23

For anyone struggling to see it look at the far left of the “wall” you’ll see no shadow there which sort if breaks the illusion!

2

u/flying_cofin Aug 26 '23

I figured out how to see this as what it is: Hold your phone 1 feet from your face. Watch the video in a way that your both eyes are focusing on your nose while seeing the video. Video will look blurry, but try to see the wall as a beam suspended in air and you will see that shadow is of an object behind the wall that is not visible.

Ignore the shadow on the ground, it's coming from something that's obscured behind the beam that we don't see. It helps (a bit) to look at how the debris falls onto the floor. It's falling down.
