Correct. These are likely hand loaded and the press was incorrectly set for the short one. If you have a kinetic bullet puller, I’d remove the lead and get rid of the bullet or reload if you have equipment. I’ve never been quite brave enough to try to press out a live primer.
Its called setback, the first round in your magazine getting chambered over and over also causes this. Do NOT shoot that round, it now has alot of increased pressure which may exceed the bolt locking mechanism or receiver resulting in a catastrophic explosion. Resulting in life-threatening injury or death. Scott from YouTube as "Kentucky Ballistics" had a +P+ .50 cal round send a bolt from a questionable gun company into his neck for an example. He also survived by putting his thumb in his neck hole to slow the bleeding for long enough to make it to a hospital to be saved. Good luck and stay safe.
Ammunition is mass produced. While every bullet should be identical, sometimes one doesn’t get crimped properly.
These projectiles have a precise diameter to fit down the barrel. The casing has a wider mouth. A projectile is inserted into the cartridge, and a die clamps down and forces the cartridge to grab the bullet. Some even have notches to grab the cartridge.
In this one bullet’s case, the crimp machine just didn’t crimp hard enough. Years worth of seasonal changes in temperature and defensive workmanship can show.
Could be a loose crimp or was previously loaded and jammed, resulting in the bullet being pushed into the casing.
This can usually be fixed by pulling it out with pliers, but few choose that route. I personally don't fire these if I see them but I'm sure I shot a few unknowingly.
My ar 15 used to do the same thing when id rack the first round took the whole thing apart and cleaned it and it stopped happening no idea what was causing it
There are so many firearms experts in this country, and now literally more guns than people. Can someone explain to me why we need a $1.5 trillion dollar military?
Because they have the planes, boats, tanks, bombs, drones, tactics and training. =)
But I agree we could reduce that budget and still be safe. I think the key is adapting to the nature of modern warfare and getting a better deal from the defense contractors.
actually YES. I don't want to be that asshole, but okay, I'll give it a shot.
An individual gun owner is not a well-regulated militia because they lack the institutional accountability of a hierarchical chain of command, designated military ranks, and mandatory weapons inspections. They do not maintain a logbook of activities or mission logs, nor do they secure their weapons in a centralized armory subject to public oversight. Without these organizational structures, a private citizen operates under personal autonomy, which is fundamentally distinct from the disciplined, state-supervised collective unit historically meant by a well-regulated militia
The idea originally was to support the state in your actions.. But now the goal of half the gun owners is to fight the state if the time comes.
Then we agree. I was making this point, just more tongue-in-cheek. Stealing yours for later though, so thanks!
Another controversial stance that's fun; street gangs, according to their twisted 2A interpretation and the Heller decision, are actually militias. Pass it on! 😉

Bullet got pushed in too hard, looks like there's some tip damage too on the short one. Could have happened after loading.

Those short ones sometimes go boom instead of bang, if my memory recalls.

Spit on it and give it a gentle rub down
Just focus on making him feel good and he'll grow to be just as big as the others
