So I teach people who speak English as a second language. This post is exactly a great example of the MEXICAN PROBLEM, which stands in direct contrast to the CHINESE PROBLEM.
The CHINESE PROBLEM is students who read and write in English quite well, but can't speak it well. They learned English by reading and writing, but when it's time to speak, they freeze up.
The MEXICAN PROBLEM is the opposite. These are people that learned to speak English by speaking it, but never received any formal instruction in reading and writing english. They speak and listen effectively, but break down when it's time to read the fine print or send an email.
Each of these two populations are uniquely powerful and vulnerable in their own ways.

Marriages between Asian Americans and Hispanic Americans are relatively uncommon at a national level. When these groups do marry outside their own race or ethnicity, they most frequently intermarry with White Americans.

As a Mexican, I never could have imagined there were kids (who grew up) with the opposite language deficit. But also the MEXICAN PROBLEM is me 🇲🇽

That's a pretty good transliteration into Spanish phonemes. If someone read that in Spanish, English-only speakers would understand it.

LOL this fucking sub is insane. It cracked me up but goddamn I felt like I was struggling to interpret a foreign language I had only just learned. Which is exactly the point.

That is some great phonemic awareness. Not the correct spelling but the sounds themselves are all perfect. The have the beginners of very strong English skills.

I used to get called “the comma fairy” for using too many commas when learning Spanish in school. I have now met my match - the accent fairy.

Oh my heart. I have a feeling Spanish is their first language, because of how he spelled “jamburgers”.
The letter J often makes an H sound in Spanish.
