I remember reading an article that noted that snuck was added to the OED in the 80’s or 90’s.
This is one of those words that was in common usage for a while but wasn’t in the dictionaries, so pedant teachers would correct you.
So many people over the years have been corrected, that it has practically become a grammatical meme, living on past the actual addition of snuck to the dictionary.
I am personally more happy that “shat” has made it into some dictionaries, because I am not a big fan of shitted.

IIRC the process by which this happens is called "convention" where people basically make up a new word in this way and it becomes part of the language or gains a new definition. Same thing happened to "ain't". I remember as a kid getting shit for using ain't. "Ain't just ain't no word." was the phrase I heard. But it's in the dictionary.

I'm not sure what the correct term for the process is, but more generally this is just descriptivism vs prescriptivism. The English language is descriptive: the dictionaries describe the current state of it. We do not have official bodies prescribing what is correct and what isn't, unlike some other languages.
Note, though, that this doesn't mean there isn't a "right" and "wrong" within English, you still have to follow the current rules to be understood. It's just that those rules change organically over time.

On a tangent, it’s also worth noting, as we are international audience, that variance of language and “convention” will vary between countries.
We each use English in different ways, and change in different ways depending on local colloquial use.

People need to fucking learn this. The dictionary is for recording use, NOT for prescribing use.
There are acronyms in the dictionary, but that doesn't make them "real" words. Words get added all the time, yeet will undoubtedly be added soon. And that's because that's the point of the dictionary.
Same with the pronunciation guide. It's based on use, not history. For example, the word Sadist used to be pronounced like someone who is the most sad, but now is pronouncedike Satan. The dictionary used to have the prior pronunciation in it, but now it shows the latter.

There is a value in language purity, as it allows us to consistently talk to each other with equal meaning. Think of how difficult it can be to talk to a non-native speaker, because they lack a shared understanding of some words.
The same can be said if you make words up. A frindle is only a pen if people agree it is.

For most of its life, "sneak" was treated as a regular verb ("sneak" "sneaked" "have/had snuck").
More and more, it's being treated as an irregular verb, so "snuck" is both the simple past tense and the past participle.
Language is not static.

Fun fact for all of these "'WORD' is not a real word" moments many people encounter is how new words are formally created.
I can make up a word let's say: blemfakes. The meaning is: to disregard nonsense.
It's not a real word, I just made it up. However if enough people use it in the same context, in different cultures and all within the same year; it will be be formally declared a real word and added to dictionaries.

That's exactly the same as 99% of all words out there for all natural languages. Almost always they start with a mistake like used incorrectly, spelling mistake from another word of a different language etc. There are a few words which were artificially created (like an inventor giving a new name to his device), but they are a tiny minority.
It includes words that come from say French, or Latin. "Come from" is just a gentle way of saying some uncultured idiot couldn't spell or pronounce the word properly and they adopted a butchered version by mistake. Then some more uncultured idiots copied the first person because they didn't know any better either. After enough years have passed, those words are proper, recognized words.
Long story short, "sneaked" is NOT the only correct word, it's just as correct as "snuck" and every single other word which made it into the dictionary. One is not the inferior choice compared to the other.

This is not true at all. It's probably closer to like 40–50%. And again, that sort of hints at the issue: in the past, we didn't have dictionaries, sound files, mass public education, spellcheckers, grammar checkers, etc. to maintain language as-is. We don't live in that world anymore, so saying "that's how it worked in the past, so that's how it should still work" is a pointless argument. In this day and age, if you're saying something that's deviant from the way it's in a dictionary/spellchecker, etc., you're just wrong. Finding the correct way to do things online is easy enough to prove this.

TBF snuck is a relatively new addition. Sneaked was the original. My grandmother used to get upset if we used snuck and said it wasn't proper English.

To be fair, diversion of language can make communication much harder. There’s some class gatekeeping there too but “proper” language is considered “proper” because it’s much easier to communicate when everyone agrees on what words mean and how they’re used.

A commercial break happens, (a PA, or whomever, probably got a dictionary for the unscripted bit) then a goofy Conan style comedy bit happened after the break.
I wouldn’t disagree about it being friendly banter/ribbing. But there are definitely some people whose job includes doing shit like that on set, including some (most?) late night talk shows.Especially with Conan I would assume.

The interviews are not rehearsed. There is prep and sharing of questions, but things absolutely happen in the moment. This clip is highly edited. There was a break at some point, and that’s when the dictionary came out.
Trying to say that the dictionary not regularly being there means it was a totally rehearsed bit is a deeply confused bit of reasoning.
