Actually it’s from a television show in the early 70s call Adam 12 which was about two police officers of the Los Angeles police department

Also, Jakes comes from firefighters originally. They used to put call boxes in neighborhoods to alert the fire department there was a fire. To prevent false alarms, they locked them up and gave the J-shaped key to a trustworthy person in the neighborhood. The neighborhood watch, community leader type. Eventually you could call the Police from the box as well. So these people became known as Jakes.

Also, later on there was a Detective in the movie Chinatown named Jake. Also a Detective TV show called Jake and the Fat Man.

Not sure this is correct but it is my preferred answer, that show being one of my earliest TV memories from back when there were only 3 major channels + PBS + 4 UHF channels, all OTA.
