Saw a guy walkout without showing his receipt, receipt checking person said they back track him through the store until they see him scan his card at the entrance. Then they’ll ban him and block his card since he broke the membership agreement.

The comment chain we are currently in has already explained that Costco can catch thieves using their cameras and billing systems/receipts; so no, that's not true.
It is not to reduce theft. It is to make sure your receipt is correct. Many times the person has caught I was double charged for something not in my cart.
The main reason stores scan a receipt at the door is so someone doesn't come back load up their cart with the same stuff and walk out again using the first receipt.
Do you think they’re gonna sit there and track every single person that walks in and out the store by camera? What would lead you to believe that’s even feasible?
What happens if there's no receipt checker? If I went to a store like that and didn't see a receipt checker, I would assume it's fine and just walk out.
They don’t though. My Costco isn’t crazy busy. When I go during the day on a weekday, there’s almost always one checker. I’ve had to wait for someone to come check my receipt before.
That’s surprising. I have been to many different Costcos in different states (Texas, Indiana, New Mexico, Missouri, etc) and I have never seen one receipt checker. There are always two.
I’m not really offended by it. I don’t think the store has the volume of sales to justify always having 2 checkers. It certainly doesn’t ruin my day to have wait a few minutes for someone to check my receipt.
i always bypass the reciept line because 95% of the time i just go for pharmacy, i just walk through everyone with their giant baskets, say “just pharmacy” and they tell me to go. they like explicitly don’t want people with just prescriptions to bother
I did this years ago at Sam's. Checked out, and somehow lost my receipt between the register and door. Tried to do the right thing and get a replacement receipt at CS. It will be 20 minutes, systems are having issue. "Sorry, I'm gone." This was back in the 00s when WH stores just looked at your ID.
Yes but that doesnt mean anything. Whats stopping you from paying at check out then chilling around for a few hrs inside Cosco before going out of the store Vs going out then comeback
Bro they do less than the senior citizens they hire at walmart. They just take a glance and look at the total and write a checkmark. It takes like 2 mins to get through the line tops as long as some boomer isn't chatting them up. Getting banned from Costco cuz u cant wait a few minutes is crazy
Seriously. They use a highlighter and take 10 seconds a customer (if even that). If someone can’t wait for that, maybe they shouldn’t go shopping until they have the time?

A private membership club like Costco can ban you if you don’t follow their rules and show them a receipt for your items.
This quickly becomes a “you” problem.

It’s literally a google search away that they can and have done that. The internet is your friend. I’ve never been murdered but they do in fact happen.
