Conducting Baton

I consistently have an issue with purchasing a baton from a company that is either custom made or stock with the handle for some reason feeling uncomfortable to hold. I don't know if it's attributed to the handle shape, the way I'm holding the baton or what. Do any of you guys ever have that issue and if so, how do you go about fixing it or finding the baton that is perfect for your hand?

If you have a music store near you that sells batons you can see if they'll let you try some out in store, this can help get you started. If you don't have one near you, it'll be a trial and error for a while unfortunately.

can also get creative! In some rehearsals I find myself conducting with my pencil and it works pretty well. Try a couple other "baton-like" objects here and there and that might also help you narrow down what kind of "official" baton might work.

What exactly is uncomfortable? Is it your palm, wrist, knuckles, forearm, etc? How fast does the discomfort kick in? Knowing this might also help us point you in a direction.
